Depends on the cause: Lymphadenopathy in an HIV patient must be carefully evaluated. It is true that the HIV virus can cause a lymphadenopathy response in itself. However, HIV can also make you more succeptable to different infections and malignancies (lymphoma and kaposi sarcoma) which can present with lymphadenopathy. Other issues: To be complete you could get another test but swollen lymph nodes while obviously a finding of HIV can be caused by other problems such as infection or other diseases that can cause lymph node enlargement.
