Hiv Duo Test Conclusive 5 Weeks
How accurate is a home HIV test that you get results in five minutes is that considered accurate and conclusive after 4 1/2 weeks?
HIV oral fluids test: HIV oral fluids test is not quite conclusive at 4.5 weeks, probably about 90% reliable. Most current (3rd generation) HIV blood tests, including the rapid ones, are conclusive by 6-8 wk after exposure, 4th gen at 4 wk. Previous advice about waiting 3 months is pretty much outmoded. However, the oral fluids test sometimes takes longer. It's the one test that probably is not conclusive until 3 months. ...Read more
Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. An elisa test (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). You may also detect it by doing a test referred to as a western blot (a gel protein electrophoresis). Thirdly by pcr (polymerase chain reaction) which ...Read more
HIV: This test measures p24 antigen and HIV antibodies and if negative 4 mos after exposure has an inordinately high likelihood that you are negative and will remain so if you do not have further exposures. Some might advise being retested at 6 mos, but doubt this is necessary. Best wishes. ...Read more

Yes: Such a test's result is conclusive even before 5 months. A person can then follow routine testing schedules after that, which means if a person is having sex with several people each year, she can tell her primary care doctor about her activities each year at her routine check-ups, and ask her primary care doctor for annual "STD and HIV screening" once per year. ...Read more
It's conclusive.: The p24 antigen is a viral core protein that appears in the blood as the viral RNA level rises following HIV infection. The test turns (+) 5-7 days after viral RNA appears in the blood. It is 89-100% as sensitive as viral RNA. This assay detects a level of antigen that approximately corresponds to an HIV RNA level of 30,000 to 50,000 copies/mL. ...Read more

Yes, conclusive: The 4th generation (duo, combo) HIV tests are 100% conclusive any time 4 weeks or more after the last possible exposure. And all rapid tests are 100% reliable by 3 months. You didn't need to wait so long, but your negative results at 23 weeks prove you don't have HIV, assuming no reexposure more recently. Please use condoms for potential risky exposures, and consider circumcision if not yet done. ...Read more

I had a hiv duo test at 10 days post exposure. I had read that antigens would be detected from 10 days? Although not conclusive can I feel reassured?
Slightly reassured: Ten days is a bit too soon. Probably about half of newly infected persons would test postive by that time with the 4th generation (antigen-antibody, "duo") test, so it's slightly reassuring. The test probably is 90% valid by 3 weeks and is conclusive for sure at 4+ weeks. ...Read more

Conclusive: This was a zero risk exposure, or close to it. Nobody has ever been known to catch HIV by fingering, even with cuts on the fingers. In any case, the test you had is conclusive any time 4 weeks or more after the exposure. There is no secondary window period (which you might have read about online-- an urban myth). No more testing is needed. ...Read more
