Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. Hiv rna test result undetected after unprotected blowjob at day17. Test range 40 to 10mil. Is it conclusive?regular hiv test neg at 15 days. Hiv?
No risk: HIV is rarely transmitted by oral sex. If you were the receiver of the BJ, you can be sure you weren't infected: there are few if any proved cases of oral to genital HIV transmission. Most experts would have recommended against an RNA test in this situation, but the negative result is additional strong evidence you weren't infected. The "regular" test is only slightly reassuring, 4-6 wk minimum. ...Read more

Hiv pcr plasma test at 8 weeks and antibodytest at 6 week post exposure negative. How accurate, reliable? can they detect if coinfection with hepatit
1.How reliable, accurate antibodytest at 6 week post possible exposure?
2.How reliable, accurate pcr plasma test at 8 weeks even if viral load low?
HIV: The antibody test is pretty reliable, and would be reliable 6 weeks post exposure. It would theoretically be able to test positive after 5-10 days post exposure. The RT-PCR test is highly sensitive and specific but a second test should be done if the viral load was low to rule out a false positive test. A repeat RT-PCR and viral load should be redrawn and this would be a true positive if higher. ...Read more

Hiv pcr plasma at 8 weeks, hiv antibody test at 6 weeks post possible exposure. how reliable and accurate? could it have detected if there coinfection
No evidence of HIV-1: This is good news - PCR tests are extremely sensitive, so if 'nothing' was found at 8 weeks, I'm 99.9% sure you don't have HIV. In addition, you have a second test -for HIV antibody that is also negative 6 weeks after a possible exposure. So this means you're absolutely HIV free - just remember to be 'safe' out there. Talk to your doc about the best ways to protect yourself and others. ...Read more

4 month neg HIV test brief unprotected encounter with female is this conclusive 3 2ndgenantibodies test neg three rapids neg and a PCR undetectable ?
Probably, clarify.: The standard HIV test is first the elisa, for screening, and then the western blot for specificity. The western blot is done if the elisa test is positive. Nucleic acid tests, like pcr, are used in testing donor blood. Although the basic tests can be extermely accurate there is a chance of false negatives due to the up to 6 month seroconversion time it takes to make antibodies. See my comment. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Had protected vaginal sex with CSW. How reliable is negative HIV p24 antigen combo test at 20 days mark? Also, getting results tomorrow for HIV RNA PCR at 19 days. Will that be conclusive if negative?
Pretty reliable: most people who turn positive would be positive at least borderline by day 14-20. There are uncommon cases of over 1 month to turn positive. NOte that the incidence of this is far lower than the liklihood of someone Totally Lying about What They are Doing !. Oh, sorry, that's for the antibody. The antigen/other measures of virus should be done TOGETHER with antibody. REALLY low risk of false negat ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Fairly good.: If the test is performed exactly as instructed, a false negative test is very unlikely in advanced HIV/AIDS. (A false negative is a negative test in a person who, in fact, does have the condition being tested.) However, it's also unlikely that a person with late stage HIV/AIDS wouldn't already have sought medical care since they would be quite symptomatic by then. ...Read more
