Had protected vaginal sex with CSW. How reliable is negative HIV p24 antigen combo test at 20 days mark? Also, getting results tomorrow for HIV RNA PCR at 19 days. Will that be conclusive if negative?

Pretty reliable: Most people who turn positive would be positive at least borderline by day 14-20. There are uncommon cases of over 1 month to turn positive. NOte that the incidence of this is far lower than the liklihood of someone Totally Lying about What They are Doing! .
Oh, sorry, that's for the antibody. The antigen/other measures of virus should be done TOGETHER with antibody. REALLY low risk of false negat ...Read more

Hiv (Definition)

Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. An elisa test (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). You may also detect it by doing a test referred to as a western blot (a gel protein electrophoresis). Thirdly by pcr (polymerase chain reaction) which ...Read more

Are HIV duo test & HIV combo test same? If not, please tell which test is reliable among two?

HIV testing: The HIV ag/ab combo assay is a chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay for simultaneous qualitative detection of HIV p24 antigen and antibodies to HIV type 1 (hiv-1 or hiv-2 in human serum and plasma.. It is accurate and inexpensive HIV test that is also called combo testing. Do not know which specific test you took but the lab can tell you if you call. You are probably free of HIV disease. ...Read more

How reliable is a negative result from an Abbott Architect Ag/Ab Combo HIV test (4th generation) taken at the 28th day after possible exposure?

100%: A negative combo test is 100% conclusive any time 4 weeks or more after the last possible exposure. This result proves you didn't catch HIV and no additional testing is needed. ...Read more

Is a negative HIV RNA test at 20 days after possible exposure somewhat reliable?

Is a negative HIV RNA test at 20 days after possible exposure somewhat reliable?

About 95%: Probably about 95% reliable. You should also have an antigen-antibody ("duo", "combo") test at 4-6 weeks. But probably all is OK: the average HIV transmission risk for a single episode of vaginal sex, if one partner is infected, is around once for every 1000-2000 exposures. ...Read more

Is an Hiv Pcr test result reliable if taken 10 days and 20 hours (almost 11)after the exposure?? Thank you

Very good, not 100%: Around 95% of newly infected people have positive PCR tests by 10-11 days. So your result is very reassuring, but for conclusive testing also have an antibody test (or duo test, i.e. antibody + p24 antigen) at 4 weeks. In the meantime, you can relax, especially if your exposure was not particularly high risk, e.g. unprotected anal sex with an infected or high risk male partner. ...Read more

HIV 1&2 P24 Combo (CMIA) test done on 13th day. Index value is 0.1 and non reactive. Symptoms. White patches on tongue so far. How reliable is my test?

Pretty reliable: This test result is about 80-90% reliable in showing you did not catch HIV 13 days previously. Have another test at 4 weeks to be 100% certain. It is much too soon for "white patches" on your tongue to be due to a new HIV infection; they have nothing to do with HIV or your possible exposure to it. ...Read more

HIV 1&2 P24 combo 13th day. Index value 0.1&non-reactive. Oral Candiasis (tongue) on14th day. Is this ARS? No other symptoms so far. How reliable is test?

Very reassuring: I think this is a duplicate question, same answers. Oral candida is not likely (not the same as white coated tongue). But even if candida, it is too soon for it to be from an HIV infection caught only 2 weeks previously, and is never the only sign of ARS. Your test is about 90% conclusive that you don't have HIV. Have another combo test at 4 weeks to be certain, but in meantime really no worries. ...Read more

HIV 1&2 P24 Combo (CMIA) test on13th day. Index value 0.1& non-reactive. Symptoms so far-Oral candidiasis from 14th day. How reliable is the test?

You don't have HIV: This test result is over 80% reliable; almost certainly you do not have HIV. Have another test at 4 weeks to be certain. Do not assume oral candidasis if you just have a white tongue; coated tongue and candidasis are not the same. Anyway, it is too soon to have oral candida due to a new HIV infection, and test results always overrule symptoms. See a doctor if your mouth problem continues. ...Read more

Can the inst hiv-1/hiv-2 antibody rapid test be reliable after 62 days to possible HIV exposure? Test results were negative. Could this be reliable?

HIV Testing: No, unfortunately. For the routine HIV antibody tests you need a minimum of three months or 90 days and a safe view of six months.

However there is testing that is much more reliable. This is the HIV pcr dna testing. This test, if negative after 21 days post exposure is 100% accurate if negative. ...Read more

Which is more reliable, an HIV duo test (antibody/antigen) at 30 days or a rapid result finger prick antibody test at 7 weeks?

Which is more reliable, an HIV duo test (antibody/antigen) at 30 days or a rapid result finger prick antibody test at 7 weeks?

HIV: HIV testing should be done repeatedly up to 3 months, but some would recommend longer. The best test would be a PCR for HIV RNA, but this is expensive. The duo test checks for p24 antigen and antibody and should be positive in most people at 30 days, but there are rare instances of false-negative results. The question about which is best cannot be answered and is irrelevant. ...Read more

I took HIV ELISA test at 80 days mark. I know its little less than 90 days. The result was negetive. Is this reliable result doc?

HIV is Hard to Get: Nope. 95% of those infected will test positive by three months. It is thought to be up to six months to get 100% accuracy with this simple antibody test. If one has a high risk worry then you can get 100% accuracy with the more powerful HIV RNA viral test from day 21 forward. ...Read more

How reliable are the results from an HIV 1/2 ab eia test after 6 weeks (like 45 days post possible infection)? Just trying to worry less.

Nucleic acid test: Negative result on EIA is good but not the final word. You may get a HIV nucleic acid test and if that is negative at 6-8 weeks, you are in the clear. EIA needs to be repeated, as rarely, it may take up to a year to become positive. ...Read more

I did an ELISA HIV test at 80 days mark. The result was negetive. How reliable is it? Can I be free f fears? Can 10 days differences make difference?

HIV is hard to get: I always worry when I hear of the prolonged length of time people getting poor health care are worrying about things they do not need to worry about. If you really feel you got exposed to HIV you must get the HIV RNA viral test. This will be 100% accurate from 21 days after the exposure. Any physician prolonging your agony is not serving you well. ...Read more

Very reliable: In the usa, we use the elisa to screen, and the more expensive pcr to pick up people who may have a very recent infection and to follow the illness. A negative elisa six months after your last risky adventure is very reliable. Please play safe from now on, for your own sake and for those of whoever will be your future life partner. Can I do PCR test for HIV, Hepatitis, HPV 18, 16, 12 after 32 days of risk exposure? The Result will be accurate and reliable? Peace of mind?

Can I do PCR test for HIV, Hepatitis, HPV 18, 16, 12 after 32 days of risk exposure? The Result will be accurate and reliable? Peace of mind?

Yes and no: AT 32 days, you should not have a PCR test for HIV, only the standard antigen-antibody test (4th generation). It will be conclusive. Its too early for hepatitis, though; wait until 6 weeks (although hepatitis is so rare after any single exposure that most experts don't recommend testing at all). Don't waste money on HPV testing; it takes several months to show up, and everybody gets HPV anyway. ...Read more

How reliable is the PCR test for hiv?

Serology better: The pcr (viral load) is generally not recommended as a diagnostic test; it's used in people who are already known to have HIV to monitor therapy. The HIV serology (antibody test) is preferred for diagnosis, as pcr is more subject to false positives and false negatives. However, pcr can be used to diagnose acute retroviral syndrome (primary infection). It should be very high at that stage. ...Read more
