How accurate is a home HIV test that you get results in five minutes is that considered accurate and conclusive after 4 1/2 weeks?

How accurate is a home HIV test that you get results in five minutes is that considered accurate and conclusive after 4 1/2 weeks?

HIV oral fluids test: ...is not quite conclusive at 4.5 weeks, probably about 90% reliable. Most current (3rd generation) HIV blood tests, including the rapid ones, are conclusive by 6-8 wk after exposure, 4th gen at 4 wk. Previous advice about waiting 3 months is pretty much outmoded. However, the oral fluids test sometimes takes longer. It's the one test that probably is not conclusive until 3 months. ...Read more

Do I need Hepatitis C or B testing after unprotected anal and vaginal sex with a guy 12+ months ago. Had five HIV tests, all negative at 15 months.?

Hepatitis testing: It's always a great thing to know your status when it comes to various diseases. Hepatitis B is well recognized as an STD and you should definitely be checked for it. The good news is there's a Hep B vaccine series that I highly recommend. You can get Hep C testing while you're at it-the good news is there are outstanding oral treatments now available with very little SEs (unlike before). Be safe! ...Read more

Been tested for HIV five times, four with Home Rapid tests, once at clinic, all negative. If test for Hep C and B come out pos, more HIV tests needed?

If new exposures: If a person has new, risky exposures to HIV, after testing negative, then future testing can be done. The fix here is, of course, to NOT expose oneself to new, risky situations... otherwise, one will either worry all the time, or have to do periodic testing in the future. If one does not stop risky exposures, there is no other way around it. ...Read more

Stressing out five days after sex got soar throat white tongue. Had first HIV test came back negative still worried r these signs of hiv?

HIV: Without knowing what your white tongue was due to it would be very unusual even for acute HIV infection to manifest itself 5 days after being infected. If you are being followed up, continue your testing. If you really want definitive confirmation of negativity you might get a PCR for HIV RNA. Good luck. ...Read more

HIV combo test after 6 weeks is conclusive?

If positive: If the test is positive, it is conclusive. In a small number of infected people it may take longer for the test to become positive. Blood Banks defer potential donors for one year from the time of exposure. For all practical purposes if the nucleic acid test is negative at 6 months after exposure the person is free of HIV. Yes: The HIV antigen-antibody ("combo", "duo", "4th generation") test is conclusve any time 4 weeks or more after the last possible exposure. Some agencies take conservative stances and still advise later testing, e.g. 3 months, but it is rarely necessary.
