I am having severe anxiety over the prospect of having hiv. I intitally tested negative but how accurate are results after 4 weeks from "exposure"?
I saw from the HIV related sites all the HIV tests are not 100% accurate then when we can be sure we don't have HIV 100% sorry for asking again anxiety?
Is there anything that will cause a false neg HIV test? Meds? Stress? Anxiety? Fasting? Anything?
Yes: Standard HIV screening tests actually test for the presence of antibodies that the body makes to fight the HIV virus. False negatives are most commonly due to testing too soon after exposure. The period of time for the body to make antobodies is called "the window period". It varies in each person, but it is usually between 3 to 6 months. ...Read more

Welcome to HealthTap.
You can relax. Virtually all persons with HIV have positive RNA or DNA tests by 23 days. You don't need to wait 6 wk for final testing. Ask your doctor or clinic about a DUO or "4th generation" test, for which the result is conclusive 4 weeks or more after exposure. I might have more advice if you'd like to say more about your exposure and any symptoms you may have. ...Read more

However, you're still at risk if you engage in unprotected sex w/infected men even if infrequently, inject drugs or share needles (http://goo. Gl/Bfs0JL & http://goo. Gl/cLtvgp). Hi Dr. If the condom was used correctly (wasn't slipped out or break), can HIV pass into my body? I'm facing a big anxiety, I'm so worried also.
Unlikely: HIV is passed through blood or body secretions like semen or vaginal secretions when they come in contact with a raw area or a break in the skin during sexual activity. I think your proper use of Condom would protect you. So wait to worry. Just get your HIV test done in 6-12 months, just to be sure. ...Read more

I might developed some kind on HIV hypochondria, or serious health anxiety. Ihave 3 negative tests and I still think about it. How can I get my life back?
Meditation: Since the facts are clear you don't have HIV you need to focus on letting go of something that isn't real. Imagine a bonfire where you sit in front of. Write your concerns on a piece of paper, crumple it and throw it into the fire and watch your concerns disappear into smoke. When the thoughts reappear imagine them once again disappearing into smoke. ...Read more
A lot of questions: I cannot really provide a brief answer for symptoms of cancer and hiv, as that covers a lot of territory. Hi, I had a protected sex around a week ago. I have been feeling very tired and fatigue for past 4days. Is it from anxiety or HIV? ....
Most likely anxiety: While it's not impossible, it's very unlikely to catch HIV or other sexually transmitted disease after/while engaging in protected sex. So feeling tired & fatigued afterwards is more likely due to anxiety from sex act. However, if you already are HIV positive, that could explain tired, fatigue AND anxiety, too. Of course, there are other reasons for feeling tired & fatigued: anemia, hypothyroidism ...Read more
Had an encounter with someone unknown HIV/HEP c, briefly made out for 2 seconds, 2 n 6 week tests negative. Should I still be worried? I have anxiety?
Saliva X-change low: Risks from what was called making out in my day are quite low for transmission. Perhaps not zero - but close. So, don't worry too much - your test results should reassure you. But even w/out serious health risks, you may want to consider the emotional meaning of getting that close to a person you don't know. I'm not at all prudish, but self worth makes me enjoy being physical w/ folk I like. ...Read more
