Yes: Here's your best approach. Lab testing for syphilis is reliable; get tested and if you need to be treated, accept treatment, which is usually easy. If the hair loss, aches, and rash persist, get with a good dermatologist / rheumatologist and see whether you perhaps have discoid lupus, vasculitis syndromes, and/or one of the other "connective tissue diseases" also. No: Hiv infects the t-helper cells and leads to their depletion. It does not affect the dendritic cells. Cheilitis or linear ulcers at corner of lips has a lot of causes including zinc deficiency and not necessarily indicative of hiv. Neither is dry skin. It's no more common in persons with HIV than the next person. ...Read more

HIV thu skin: No. HIV cannot get to you thru "hair holes". Must have cut or scrape in the area for HIV to infect. I would discuss with your Dr there and show where the area is you are worried about. If the follicles are markedly inflamed and bleeding they worry. ...Read more

Rash in newborn: ETN is not likely the cause (usually in first few days to 2 wks). Neonatal acne is common and generally starts around 3 weeks of age. Yes, neonatal acne can cover the areas mentioned. Another common rash to be considered is seborrheic dermatitis - this rash will typically have flaky patches as well. No treatment for acne, severe seborrhea may be tx with low dose steroid (ask your pediatrician) ...Read more
