Hiv 1 Rna Qualitative Tma
Is 4th generation ag/ab conclusive for BOTH hiv-1 & hiv-2 after 6 months (& multiple tests before this) of unprotected sex? Is further testing needed?
Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. An elisa test (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). You may also detect it by doing a test referred to as a western blot (a gel protein electrophoresis). Thirdly by pcr (polymerase chain reaction) which ...Read more

Does cobas taqman v 2 for HIV 1 RNA check for all groups N, O, P, M and all subtypes of M. If not, what it doesn't check. Please answer, Thanks?
A technical question: I am looking at the Roche website regarding this test and it says this test, "Quantifies the clinically significant HIV-1 groups and subtypes with full subtype coverage and quantifications of HIV-1 groups O and M" It is a confirmatory, not screening test. I believe you would need to contact the company if you need more specific information than this. Good wishes:) ...Read more

Is a HIV ag/ab eia and a hiv-1 Rna test conclusive at 5 months? I also had a 4th gen test 3 months ago both negative. Blood was cold if that matters
I understand the p24 and hiv-1 rna test are specifically designed for hiv-1, not hiv-2. Is there any cross-reactivity with the p24 and rna for hiv-2?
HIV: Do not know which test kit was being used, but most today cover both Types 1 & 2. Check with the lab that ran the test. Good luck. ...Read more
What is the level of sensitivity of the HIV-1 RNA PCR test by Aptima? Is it accurate at 2 to 3 weeks post exposure?
Yes: Read the CDC updated recommendations on HIV testing. The rationale for this test being available is that HIV RNA is detectable in plasma before antibodies. A safe approach is to be tested after the eclipse period after potential exposure when no RNA nor antibodies to HIV can be detected. The RNA test is effective around 10 days after infection but seroconversion to antibodies may take 3 months. ...Read more

Can hiv-1 RNA PCR detect hiv-2 at some point or can not detect? If you consider Poland, can you exclude HIV possibility with hiv-1 RNA PCR test only?
HIV Online: We are very experienced here with what we call HIV panic. There is little we will say that will ease your panic. HIV 1 in the disease you are at risk for in Poland in general. Your HIV RNA test is negative. If you cannot get past this worry then go get an HIV 1/2 antibody test with the P24 antigen test as well. Then test every twelve weeks. And if you are at risk get on Truvada (emtricitabine and tenofovir) to prevent. ...Read more
Hi, had HIV-1 rna pcr @ 5 weeks & 5 months. And HIV ag/ab DUO at 1, 2, 4 & 6 months. Do I need further testing for HIV or do I need HIV-2 pcr or did the DUO rule it out?, or is it too rare to worry about in MI? I leave in Novi, MI. Thank you
Hiv-1 RNA PCR result is undetected, worried about hiv-2 in Germany. Dr didn't see necessary to take antibody test even at w12.What should I do?
You must wait. Or get an HIV 1/2 antibody test but know you will have to repeat it in the future. At twelve weeks it cannot be 100% accurate.
in the future if you have a high risk exposure there is a treatment to prevent infection if started within 72 hours. If you have repeated high risk exposures there is a treatment to take before exposure to prevent infection. ...Read more
