Ice it!: Accidents happen. The best, easiest & cheapest thing you can do is ice the area as soon as possible. Earlier is better, more often is better than less often. Acetaminophen, if you're otherwise healthy, can be used for pain relief (I tend to avoid ibuprofen). Look for Changes...: Look for changes in behavior. Children hit their heads often; most do very well after an accident. Crying in this case is good unless it is prolonged. Look for excessive sleepiness, vomiting, or change in mental status. If a bump (goose egg) is there and there is no bleeding, try a cold compress or sack of frozen peas. See MD: Temple is very delicate area of scalp. You mentioned hit VERY HARD. Head injuries should not be taken lightly. A proper evaluation by a MD and he may need a CAT SCAN of brain to make sure that every thing is OK.
