Forget alternative: This is a one year old. If something happened as that injury, and there are symptoms, for precaution, do not look for alternative causes of the symptoms. Go to your pediatrician, be evaluated, then you can find out the reason. Always point to the most possible cause as the cause, until proven otherwise. ...Read more

Best to evaluate: A 2 year old with an acute head injury likely needs prompt evaluation to determine if they need any further studies such as neuroimaging (mri or ct scan). It can be hard to assess the mental status of a two year old so many institutions use this age as a cut off i. Their criteria for neuroimaging. ...Read more

Hit head, only had headache for few months, then they stopped, I hit it again, and now ache and fog there for even longer. Worried it won't heal?

"Ache" and "fog": Presumably it will "heal" although it may take longer, depends on the length of time between the two hits and how hard you hit your head, there's really nothing you can do but wait (and try to keep from hitting your head so often, or keep a bicycle helmet with you). ...Read more

Slipped and hit head first on floor 2yrs ago had moderate pain in head & neck now headaches are severe & feel like head is going to explode?

Did you get checked: Out after the fall? Have you had any other head trauma or neurologic signs? If no other changes, suggest seeing a physician and having them take a look at your cervical spine as well as rule out any other serious issues. After a fall, many times docs forget to look at the neck musculature (too busy trying to rule out life threatening issues!) but this can lead to long term neck issues/headaches. ...Read more

Hit head a week ago Dr said mild concussion. Bumped head again 4 hrs ago. Not hard. Slight head pressure for a bit. Feel ok now. Any need for concern?

Clarification: A concussion, by definition, is a head injury causing loss of consciousness, amnesia, or a combination of both. The term is way overused by numerous physicians, as most of the patients have merely "bumped" their heads, and will experience no permanent consequence. You are likely in the latter category. ...Read more

Drip after hit head has been constant coughed green mucas now ear is leaking just a regular drip?

Go To Doctor NOW: Your symptoms suggest the possibility of two conditions. Take him: I realize there is no fun in taking child to ER. You only have one chance. Child could also be taken to urgicenter. Child may well not need xrays as many times they do not. Would urge that you take the child in and have hims checked out You will still need to watch him all night.

Not necessarily: You don't have to. However, if you develop any bleeding, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, or blurry vision to name a few symptoms then certainly you should. Blood thinners can cause potentially life threatening bleeds with or without trauma. When in doubt always call or visit a doctor. ...Read more

Head Pain: Any kind of head pain that results from trauma of this sort should be evaluated by at minimum a ct scan of the brain. If there is concern about radiation, MRI would be even better.

Many pains in the head can be from irritation of bone, muscle, skin, cartilage, dentition, but head pain following trauma needs evaluation by a specialist. ...Read more

Hit head hard under granite countertop. Urgent care did x-rays, came back normal. No symptoms except head hurts. Is a CT scan still needed?

Probably not: It is not surprising to have a headache after hitting your head on granite. Your scalp is very likely bruised and may be quite sore, tender and/or swollen for a while. If you did not lose consciousness and you have no other symptoms and if your physical exam was normal, there is probably no need to do a ct scan. ...Read more

Hit head sat. Blacked out. Bump and small cut. Above right eyebrow. Tingling. Yesterday extremely dizzy now 4 days later developing black eye. Concusion?

Yes: You describe symptoms of a closed head injury or tbi, and I advise that you not delay an evaluation by your md or by a local emergency room dept. To be reassured that something more serious is not going on, a exam will help to determine this. A subtle fracture or hematoma can be serious. ...Read more
