However, you have to remember that this is just a possibility and not a guarantee. It is seen more commonly in people whose family members also suffer from bipolar disorder. It typically starts between ages 15-25 and affects men and women equally. Simple responses: Dementia can be mild, mod or severe. It means a loss of ability to care for one's self without help due to cognitive losses. There are over one hundred causes of dementia with Alzheimer's Disease number one. Stroke, head trauma, B12 and thyroid deficiencies are but a few of the other causes.
