Hip pain when lifting it or moving it while laying down. Hurts to lift with leg extended and when bent at knee. Cause? 17 yrs old f 208 lbs htn & pcos
Hard to say: There are several possibilities and an exam could probably determine the cause. Probably the three most common causes in a 17 year old would be a soft tissue condition around the hip such as a tendinitis, or an inflammatory condition of the hip itself such as a synovitis, or that it is a non musculoskeletal condition involving the abdomen or pelvis. Consider being seen. ...Read more

It is important to see a hip or back expert and obtain imaging studies to determine the location of the pain and to establish a treatment regimen. ...Read more

Can pfiriformis syndrome cause burning in the whole leg? Along with a strange coldness feeling. Along with hip pain?
Piriformis Pain: The sciatic nerve runs underneath the piriformis muscle and typically does not irritate the nerve. However if the muscle is irritated or the nerve runs through the belly of the muscle (5-10% of people) it can press on the sciatic nerve and cause the sciatica type pain in the buttock region but also radiate into the leg as well. Typically stretching and nsaids are mainstay for treatment. ...Read more
What to do if I've been having pain right where the hip joins the top of my leg. The pain is more towards the back. Could this still be hip pain?
Possible: Hip Joint pain generally is in the front of the leg or groin area where the leg meets your true hip. If it hurts in the back of the leg/buttock junction it could be sciatica (pinched nerve), spinal facet joint pain, sacroiliac joint pain or even piriformis muscle pain. I would suggest to be evaluated fully you should see a spine specialist to address your concerns appropriately. ...Read more

See Orthopedic MD: You appear to have hip pain from overuse stress on that joint. You mentioned this happened because of pain from slipped disc causing you to favor that leg & put more weight on it. See an orthopedic physician who can properly assess you & recommend a treatment plan. You might benefit from physical therapy and pain management. Surgery is usually last resort. Hip pain, in outside hamstring below butt, and outside of hip. Since I dance a lot, doing certain moves, (kicks, turns, and jumps) hurt really bad. I know I injured it doing a kick tilted over, I hyper extended my supporting leg and pushed out my hip, and
I: I agree with dr. Kessous. You should start with relative rest, ice and some over the counter antiinflammatories. However, given that you are a dancer, and age 15, you could have easily pulled a tendon off the bone, possibly even pulling a small piece of bone with it. If conservative measures with rest, ice and anti-inflammatories doesn't allow you to return to dancing, then you should see a sports medicine specialist to get the proper diagnosis and treatment plan. ...Read more
Be seen: Multiple possibilities, I would not hesitate to be seen for a specific diagnosis. Among the three more common causes are something wrong with the hip itself, or a Tendonitis of the tendon that runs on the outside of the hip often referred to as iliotibial band syndrome, or an irritation if a nerve in the back causing pain that runs into the hip and leg; other possibilities as well. ...Read more
