Hip arthritis?: It is obviously difficult to say what is wrong wthout examining you.... However your symptoms suggest early hip arthritis. Pain in your groin and 'deep'in your hip with weight -bearing suggest early hip osteoarthritis especially w/ pivoting maneuvers.I would suggest seeing a board certified orthopedic surgeon for examination and X-rays . I have been having hip joint pain for a long time. It willl wake me up in sever pain in the middle of the night. Its only in my left hip.
Bursitis?: Hip pain that wakes you at night is classically bursitis, but you will need a physical exam to be sure. A steroid injection into your great troch bursa will help this if that is what it is. Nsaids may also benefit, but speak with your physician prior. Stretch your it band and your hamstrings to help. Depends: Depends on the location of the "hip." the term "hip" is often not specifically localizing, even for physicians. If pain in in the groin, actual hip joint may be involved. If pain is on the side, it may be bursitis. If pain is in the butt, other possibilities. Careful exam + X-ray: See someone who can do a careful ms exam, including internal rotation of hips while seated. If you have pain, probable arthritis. Make sure you point out where the pain is: your self-declared pain may be in your trochanteric bursa, your sacroiliac joint, or your piriformis muscle, to name just a few. Shoe Inserts and Hip: Subtle changes in shoes, insoles and orthotic devices can cause and help problems up the leg. If you simply switched an old shoe insert with a new insert, that alone probably did not cause the problem. My first guess would be that the shoes overall are beginning to break down and replacing the insoles was too late to help a developing hip problem.
