ONLY as prescribed: Never increase a Rx w/o the Dr's advice - especially not a psych medication and xanax is very risky since the end game (coming off) can be rough! Other techniques: In my opinion xanax (alprazolam) is not for long term usage. Maybe your new doctor can discuss an ssri anti-depressant with you. There are also cognitive behavioral and relaxation/mediation techniques that can be very useful. You could see a psychologist for this type of treatment. Yes: Because of the short half life and rapid onset, this particular drug is more reinforcing than the other benzos.
