Need more info: Are we talking about meningitis or one of the numerous other conditions that can cause white cells to be in the spinal fluid? If it is a bacterial infection, then cultures will tell you what antibiotics are appropriate. If it is a viral infection, no antibiotics are needed. ...Read more

Bloody tap or bleed: Since you're able to type this question coherently, I gather that your health didn't suffer after the lumbar puncture, so that would probably rule out a cerebral bleed (hemorrhage) as a cause of the blood cells in CSF. Test: Iif there is other symptom related ( unintentional weight loss, bleeding, abdominal pain etc). - consider to get imaging- ct scans. Also cancer screening- colonoscopy, papsmear, mammogram etc if you smoke- please quit smoking. Also sometimes medication can increase WBC - although usually not more than 15k.
