That being said, it would be OK to treat yourself to a fatty meal every once in a while, meaning once a week or two. Realize that all meals will have some fat in them, so it's not like you're completely avoiding fat otherwise. ...Read more

I have alkaline phosphatase elevated (450u/l) as well as (sgpt), (sgot), and ama test is positive, age 37y (woman), have anaemia and low level of iron?
Sort this out: You need to be told straight-up whether you are going to be diagnosed with & treated for primary biliary cirrhosis. If you also have iron deficiency anemia, the cause needs to be found. I hope you are not a non-supplementing vegetarian & that a search for possible sources of blood loss is underway. Don't treat labs: Omega-3's have been a massive disappointment in most areas when subjected to scientific testing. Most important is finding WHY these liver tests are up. If it's chronic hepatitis B or C, hemochromatosis, Wilson's, or autoimmune hepatitis, you're going to die if you're not diagnosed & Rx'd. If this is non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, nothing will help as much as getting aerobically fit. ...Read more

I have SGPT 53U/L and SGOT 41U/L, A/G ratio 2.45. my BP is 100/60. Does SGPT-SGOT level indicate something to be worried?
Ursodiol is not an antibiotic, it is a bile acid, usually it is used to dissolve gallstones or treat primary biliary cirrhosis. In rare case it can worsen liver function but can help liver function too, and more commonly does do so. See:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ursodeoxycholic_acid

I had a medication called doxydar just 4 hrs before doing a test for sgpt & sgot, can the medication cause significant difference in the results?
Probably not.: although doxycycline can cause increased liver test results in about 2% of patients who take it, it would be unlikely for it to cause abnormal results just four hours after taking one capsule. Therefore, I think it is unrelated. If you did have abnormal liver tests, you should get them rechecked within three months, to be sure they have returned to normal. Good luck. ...Read more
