Hypotension (Definition)

Hypotension is defined as "low blood pressure". Blood pressure is measured as two numbers and expressed as systolic blood pressure (sbp) / diastolic blood pressure (dbp). The sbp is the pressure that is generated when the heart squeezes. Dbp occurs when the heart relaxes. 120/70 is considered normal in adults. Less than 100/60 (of either number) can ...Read more

I have a fast resting heart rate and low blood pressure. Does this mean my heart is not efficient? Could I have heart trouble valve or myopathy?

I have a fast resting heart rate and low blood pressure. Does this mean my heart is not efficient? Could I have heart trouble valve or myopathy?

? POTS: Although there is very little other information, you could possibly have paroxysmal orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. The increase in heart rate would in particular occur upon standing. This can be accompanied by associated decrease in blood pressure - with lightheadedness, fatigue, excessive thirst. If chronic, can prompt cold extremities, shortness of breath, headache, restless sleep, GI symptom. Read more

I am having trouble with low blood pressure, shortness of breath and fast resting heart rate. I have idiopathic dcm and bi vent pm. Ef is 38% why?

Cardiac function: A low BP absent orthostasis or symptoms is preferred with low EF, high HR at rest & breathlessness need to be evaluated & pharmacologically addressed, aerobic excercise will help, talk to treating cardiologist. Read more

Hey I am 28, My blood pressure seems to fluctuate from a low130/89 to a high 149/100 my resting heart rate is about 93.

Likely normal: Are you measuring your vital signs after complete rest for 10 minutes? 130/89 is slightly high (normal resting BP is <135/<85). 149/100 is high and, if sustained, should be lowered. While a HR of 93 is "normal", it's unusual to see that AT REST in a healthy young man. There are many factors that could cause it including anxiety, fatigue, lack of sleep, inadequate nutrition, anemia, pain, fever etc Read more

Clonidine 0.1 mg or propranolol 10mg to help resting heart rate come down? My heart rate is usually 105-120 and blood pressure normal to slightly low.

Clonidine 0.1 mg or propranolol 10mg to help resting heart rate come down? My heart rate is usually 105-120 and blood pressure normal to slightly low.

Beta blockers better: It sounds as if you may have a condition called inappropriate sinus tachycardia. This may be confirmed by your physician. It is best treated with beta blockers or calcium channel blockers. Ablation may also be an option. I would avoid Clonidine due to side effects. Read more

Resting heart rate 110-120 DR isn't concerned. Blood pressure and ECG normal

Seems a little: Elevated but with your health issues it might be due to your medications or anemia. If you are significantly worried I would consider a second opinion. Read more

Probably: If your BP consistently high after exercise- and if it high during the resting phase, you have to on medications. In that case you may have exercise less intensely, along with other life style changes. Read more

Do I need to be concerned with a consistent resting heart rate of 100? Blood pressure is usually 110/80.

Possibly: I see you are on synthroid (thyroxine). You may need your thyroid level checked. Also, if your anxiety (on xanax) is not controlled, that can result in a fast heartbeat. Generally, this may cause problems in the future so you should get it checked out. Read more

Blood Pressure: 117/68 Resting Heart Rate Sitting: 75bpm - 85bpm Exercise everyday. Friend's sitting resting heart: 70bpm - 75bpm why? Heart Disease?

Variation: There can be a lot of variation between individuals resting heart rates. In general, the more "fit" you are cardiovascular wise, the lower your resting heart rate will be; so you friend may be a bit more "fit" than you. But in reality that's a very small difference and if many factors may contribute to day to day variations. Neither of those heart rate ranges suggest "heart disease". Read more
