What does high hct high MCV and low mchc mean in blood work?

What does high hct high MCV and low mchc mean in blood work?

Spurious vs real: Need good history. Decrease plasma volume or stress erythrocytosis would be spurious. Secondary causes could include anything associated with tissue hypoxia ex. Chronic pulmonary disease. Normal arterial po2 could mean increase carboxyhemoglobinemia 2nd to cigarette smoking. Inappropriate increase ex renal disorders;ex renal cyst or ca. Primary cause; p. Vera bone marrow disorder. Few examples. ...Read more

Low MCV high red blood cells with abnormal morphology with low neutrophils and high lymphocytes counts?

Low MCV high red blood cells with abnormal morphology with low neutrophils and high lymphocytes counts?

Means nothing alone: In isolation from the patient story, lab tests mean nothing. This is especially true since we have no actual numbers. The low MCV and high rbc would make any physician think of a thalassemia, but it would be criminal to speculate further without knowing more about the person. If this is a you or a family member, you have a right and a duty to request your doctor's thoughts, or get consultation. ...Read more

What dose high blood count and high blood platelet. mean?

What dose high blood count and high blood platelet. mean?

More info needed: High blood and platelet counts may mean nothing, but need to evaluate based on examination, white blood cell count and how high red cell count and platelet counts are. Iron deficiency can increase platelets as can inflammation; high altitude and smoking can raise the red count---a good history and physical are needed. Good luck. ...Read more

Does high hemoglobin cause high blood pressure?

Does high hemoglobin cause high blood pressure?

No, but...: If a man's hemoglobin is more than 17.5 or thereabouts, it's worth trying to find the cause. Extremely viscous blood (igm, extremely polythemia) may require extra pressure to pump, but in such situations the problem is obvious. ...Read more

High protein level in blood results?

High protein level in blood results?

HIgh protein level: High blood protein (hbp) level can be caused by dehydration causing bengin elevation of proteins. Other more serious causes of hbp are chronic inflammation, ameyloidosis, hiv/aids, multiple myeloma and monoclonical gammopathies. I would suggest your seeing an hematologist if the cause of your hbp is not due to dehydration as soon as you can to arrive at the correct cause of your hbp level. ...Read more

What does high prolactin levels with high red blood cells with high hemoglobin and hematocrit levels mean?

Needs work up: High prolactin level can have several reasons. High hemoglobin can be secondary to other causes or a primary bone marrow issue that your bone marrow is making too many red cell out of control. See a hematologist/oncologist for work up. ...Read more

Blood tests show high mean platelet volume, low platelet count, high urobilinogen, high WBC, high clumpy platelet morphology. Related? conerns?

Blood tests show high mean platelet volume, low platelet count, high urobilinogen, high WBC, high clumpy platelet morphology. Related? conerns?

Why the tests?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it might have helped to have the actual values rather than high and low. Why were the tests done? It would be prudent to discuss these with the doctor who ordered the test as s/he knows more about your health. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more

In blood test. Neutrophils low. Lymphs high Monocytes high .But only reading high on absolute was Granulocytes and Neutrophils. Cause for concern?

How high?: Percentages mean nothing. If your absolute granulocyte count was slightly above the reference range without abnormal forms and you feel well, it means nothing; this fluctuates and a cold shower can double it. ...Read more

Recent blood test shows low indirect bilirubin (.08)+increased blood volume (99.7)+increased hematocrit (47.2)+high WBC (14,200). Huh?

Recent blood test shows low indirect bilirubin (.08)+increased blood volume (99.7)+increased hematocrit (47.2)+high WBC (14,200). Huh?

Uncertain.: The WBC is definitely high, but the HCT and MCV are borderline, and thus of uncertain significance. If truly elevated, the HCT could point to a primary or secondary polycythemia, an increase in the number of red blood cells. But this could also reflect mild dehydration, and given the borderline degree could be nothing. The high WBC is real. If you have no symptoms I would just repeat in 1mo. ...Read more

What could cause high protein and high red blood cell count in blood test?

Many or none: It depends on the numbers and your general health, symptoms, and physical examination. Often a blood test that is just above or below the normal range is still normal. Talk to your medical provider about the tests. ...Read more

High RDW?

Discuss it: You didn't give the values, but if they're not way out-of-range, I'd check you for thalassemia minor. If you have it, it's worth knowing as marrying another person with it can be a disaster for your children. I can't explain the high platelets, though the common cause is coexisting iron deficiency which can complicate this stuff. Pure iron deficiency might show low RBC instead. ...Read more

What does high 'mean platelet volume' and high 'lymphocytes' in complete blood count(cbc) test mean?

What does high 'mean platelet volume' and high 'lymphocytes' in complete blood count(cbc) test mean?

Discuss with PCP: Mean platelet volume (MPV) is a machine-calculated measurement of the average size of platelets found in blood. MPV is higher when there is destruction of platelets. Lymphocytes are usually high on viral infections or some cancers. Discuss with your doctor about it, as lab results by themselves, like this one, don't have a context to determine level of severity associated with them. ...Read more

Low red blood cell count, high platelets and high MCH on lab test. What can it mean?

Low red blood cell count, high platelets and high MCH on lab test. What can it mean?

Depends: It depends upon how abnormal the counts are. Laboratory normals are set at the laboratory level and do not indicate normal for everyone. Values slightly outside the range may be completely normal for you and not for another person. This is where your doctor uses their experience and personal knowledge of your case. ...Read more
