High HDL related to high cholester?

High HDL related to high cholester?

Yes: Total cholesterol measures the cholesterol contained in all lipoproteins including low density lipoprotein (ldl), intermediate density lipoprotein (idl), high density lipoprotein (hdl), very low density lipoprotein (vldl), and chylomicrons. If high hdl-c is present, total cholesterol will be increased. ...Read more

Cholesterol (Definition)

Cholesterol is a measure of fat produced by the body by genetics as well as by diet. Your total cholesterol measures the triglycerides (increases with high sugary foods and baked goods, helped with fish oil), HDL (your good cholesterol-difficult to increase but helped with exercise, hormone replacement, niacin) and LDL (your bad cholesterol, decrease this w/ lean protein, ...Read more

My LDL cholesterol, vldl chol ratio is high. Are these related?

My LDL cholesterol, vldl chol ratio is high. Are these related?

Yes and No: Vldl (very low density cholesterol) is made in the liver, and contains both triglycerides (tg's) and cholesterol ( more tg's than cholesterol). Ldl is made in the blood stream from vldl, and contains more cholesterol, less tg's . Both have a protein called apob on the surface, but because LDL lasts longer , there is more LDL available. Both can cause plaque in arteries if levels are too high. ...Read more

Total cholesterol 159--triglycerides--49-- hdl 59-- Ldl--90-- is that normal for triglyceride..thanks?

Low triglycerides.: That result is low (normal being below 150), but that's also quite good. It's more heart-protective that the triglycerides and LDL are low and the HDL is quite high, relatively. It's a good cholesterol profile. ...Read more

Recommended food for high tg, LDL and low HDL patients?

Recommended food for high tg, LDL and low HDL patients?

Back to basics: Thanks for your data! numbers all look pretty good. Tg is only mildly elevated and would respond best to low calorie diet with focus on reducing high glycemic index foods and fructose. Tg may come down, but I am not sure there is great benefit to that. Real focus of treatment is LDL but that is great. Eat plenty of fish. Regular aerobic exercise. Maintain healthy weight. ...Read more

Total cholestrol-154, triglycerides-137, hdl-35, ldl-92, vldl-27, bp110/90 bp
is it normal?

Normal or Healthy?: In us, typical total chol. Prior to first obvious heart attack: 170 mg/dl. However, cholesterol is made by every animal (including human) cell, part of cell membranes ; not correct issue; promoted as a ways to guess at LDL particle numbers yet poor correlation, esp. On individual basis. Nmr lipoprotein assay is highly accurate; lipid assays not. Trigs a bit high ; promoted by carb/sugar foods. ...Read more

Tryglicerides and hdl are good but ldl is high. Advice?

Tryglicerides and hdl are good but ldl is high. Advice?

More info please: Depends on how high your LDL is. Also depends on your risk factors and your diet. LDL can be lowered by increasing your omega fatty acid, by increasing your exercise and possibly by decreasing your carbohydrate intake. If you have low risk factors then there wouldn't be much cause for concern. ...Read more

Yes, meds+lifestyle: What is your BMI? Have you gained weight? This may affect your numbers and suggests a remedy as well. In addition to lipid medications, you need to be screened for type 2 diabetes and fatty liver. Beginning a proper diet and exercise program and losing weight weight will help as well. If you smoke, get help to quit. ...Read more

Whats best high density lipoprotein cholesterol range?

Dr. Irv Loh Dr. Loh
2 doctors agreed:

Higher the better: Acceptable hdl-c traditionally has a lower level in men of 40 mg/dl and 50 mg/dl in women. But generally, the higher the better. The problem is that our current therapies (lifestyle and drugs) have minimal to modest impact on raising hdl-c. Future agents may be more effective, but the proof of improved outcome will be needed. Plus, all hdl-c may not be alike, some more functional than others. ...Read more

Hdl 31mg low triglyceride s 334mg high cholesterol 209 high..Is this bad? Please ezplain..

Lipid Abnormalities: Bad is not a common word we use in medicine. This scenario is a very common type of cholesterol problem. The biggest issues with these numbers are that your lifestyle numbers--the numbers you can change--are all out of whack and putting you in danger. Eating right, exercising correctly and limiting your sugars will lower the triglycerides and raise the hdl. This is vital for you at your age. ...Read more

Total cholesterol 223, LDL 133, HDL 63, trigl. 100, is this high?

Slightly: We like for total cholesterol be be less than 200 so that is somewhat high. However, your good cholesterol the HDL is high and this is good, over 60 is excellent. The LDL should be less than 130 unless you are diabetic or have heart disease in which case it should be less than 100. Triglycerides are normal. If you have diabetes or heart disease you probably need medicine, otherwise diet/exercise. ...Read more

Crp and cholesterol related?

Cholesterol is a fat: which allows animal cell membranes to be flexible & humans to move; has little to do with arterial disease though promoted by NIH.gov for 4 decades for less $. Typical total cholesterol before people 1st obvious heart attack 170 mg/dL. LDL-C is not measured from your blood, only estimated: LDL-C = TC - HDL-C - 1/5th triglycerides. Get NMR lipoprotein test, get LDL particles <400 to max 700 nmol/L ...Read more

Lipid panel: ttl cholesterol- 159, hdl- 45, ldl- 102, triglycerides- 61, cholesterol/hdlc ratio- 3.5, non hdl- 114. Is this good with heart disease?

Depends on the natur: If it is coronary artery disease, then this lipid profile needs to be improved further. The goal is to get LDL down to <70mg/dl. This can be achieved with daily exercise for 30-45 minutes, avoid any saturated fats in diet or cooking and increase the dose of statin being used. Your cardiologist should help to titerate the statin dose further. ...Read more

May never find "why": I'm going to assume that this is fasting sample. A lot of this is hereditary. There's not a consensus about what to do with high triglycerides when other lipids seem okay. One idea is to spend a few months exercising like you did as a teenager and then checking. I bet you'll see things change for the better. Best wishes. ...Read more

These particles vary in types of protein on the outer surface, ↓density ; ↑size (5 groups) according to the number of fat molecules carried. Hdl (Definition)

HDL, or high density lipoprotein, is a molecule in the body that is responsible for the transport of lipids (fats) from various organs including blood vessels back to the liver for processing and possible elimination. Because it helps prevent accumulation of lipids in blood vessels, HDL cholesterol is ...Read more
