High Mpv In Pregnancy
When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
Nothing: Labs mean nothing in isolation. High MPV usually means nothing in any case unless the person is otherwise clearly sick. I raise my anion gap every time I exercise. Reference ranges are set so that several percent of healthy folks fall outside on either end. If your phyiscian isn't worried, stop worrying yourself. Best wishes. ...Read more
MPV is: Mean platelet volume and RDW is red cell distribution width. So platelets are larger than average and red cells have more variability in size than average. May not mean much if the CBC is otherwise unremarkable, but could be subtle signs of a slightly "stressed" bone marrow, ie increased cell production. ...Read more
I'm 21yrs old & I've norml PLT count 202x10.e 3/μl but high MPV 14.2 fL with low MCH 25.6pq & MCHC 31.7q/dL. What'd be the risk of high MPV? RBC=4.6
See below: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, if your hemoglobin in normal, I would not be concerned. ...Read more
Large platelets or.: Mpv means mean platelet volume. It may increase if large or 'young' platelets are in the blood. Or falsely elevated due to platelet aggregation - can some times happen during blood draw and does not mean there is any illness. In patients who have low platelets high mpv may mean that the bone marrow (where platelets are made) is trying to make more platelets- young ones are usually larger size! ...Read more
Meaning of high MPV: Mpv stands for mean platelet volume. A high mpv is usually indicative of a destructive process to platelets (such as immune thrombocytopenic purpura, inflammatory bowel disease, myeloproliferative diseases, bernard-soulier syndrome, pre-eclampsia...Etc). The bone marrow responses by producing and releasing an increased number of larger, younger platelets to the peripheral circulation. ...Read more
Nothing by itself: However, since your physician rx'd iron pills for you, then he/she must believe you are iron deficient and that he/she already knows the cause (diet and/or a woman's monthly loss). Mpv may run a bit high in iron deficiency; no one knows why and you should not worry yourself over it. ...Read more
Husband has lympocytes high. Monocytes high. High imm gran. High mpv. Smudge cells 52 what does this mean? He just found out he has diabtes
Big picture: This is concerning but this is not proof of ill health. Age 37 is young for chronic lymphocytic leukemia which is of course what you'll read about if you track down smudge cells. High MPV means nothing and your telling us only that this-and-that are "high", but not how high, limits what we can tell you even more. Again, he may be fine. Ask for a hematology consult if you need questions answered. ...Read more
You cannot: Mpv or mean platelet volume is a measure of the size of platelets. A higher number indicates larger platelets, which is a sign of increased production of young platelets or rarely, abnormal platelets. If you have a low platelet count and high mpv this may indicate destruction of platelets (itp or dic). If you platelet count is normal and you do not have bleeding, just ignore this. ...Read more
See below: This is the mean (average) platelet size. By itself, I couldn't draw any conclusions. This number needs to be interpreted in relationship to the rest of the blood count and more importantly to the patient (ie. Why the test was run.) ...Read more
Had CBC done. MPV came back high 11.6. Should I be concerned? Also on sporanox (itraconazole) could the itraconzale cause the high MPV? Thanks
High mpv since january 2013, now at least 3 tests down in june 2013 mpv still high, what could it be?
May be nothing:
What is the actual value? If all other findings are normal, you may leave it alone.

I have high MPV and eosinophils, and also low neutrophils and sedimentation of blood. Should I need to worry? Thank you so much
All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it would have helped to know the actual values. In any case, if you do not have symptoms, do not worry about the lab results.

I'm a 37m. I have a constant high bilirubin (~2.1mg/dl), and for several years, high mpv (~13.4fl), and low platelets (140-160k). What does this mean?
Probably nothing: I'm going to assume you are not taking any medications that will raise your bilirubin, and do not have a mild birth defect causing hemolysis. You probably have gilbert's non-disease. Your physician knows the workup, which is simple -- if you turn a bit more yellow if you skip a few meals, you're basically got the diagnosis. I would not be worried about the platelets, but monitor them. ...Read more
What could low platelet count with high mpv mean in someone with an eating disorder involving severe restricting?
Bad things: It can mean that the body is not functioning properly, in that the bone marrow is being suppressed and the normal way in which blood cells and platelets are manufactured is being disturbed. There may be other detectable and non-detectable changes as well. It's part of malnutrition and the harm to the body. Eating disorders are deadly, with up to a 25% mortality rate in untreated cases.! ...Read more

30 y.o women with very high MPV 12, 2 fl but everything else is ok in the blood. Deficiency of vitamin D was noted. How to get my MPV back to normal?

Does my dizziness and my mesentric enlarged lymph nodes have anything to do with my high mpv level and low glucose level?
Let's talk: Your dizziness could indeed but caused by low glucose. An enlarged mesenteric lymph most likely has nothing to do with the dizziness. A mpv (mean platelet volume) is only a number representing the size of your platelets and has nothing to do with any of the other condition you have mentioned. If that lymph node persists I would suggest a ct guided needle biopsy so a pathologist can evaluate you. ...Read more
My blood work shows high mpv and low ferritin what could This be? Can low ferritin be colon cancer? And high MPV I read can mean risk of stroke
Iron deficiency: Not to worry. At your age, unless it runs in the family, there is extremely low chance this is colon cancer. Likely what your tests say is that you just have a little iron deficiency. This is very common to see in young healthy females as a result of menstrual periods and not enough dietary iron intake. The elevated MPV is likely due to secondary effects of the iron deficiency. Keep your follow up ...Read more

Meaningless.: In a 5 year old in whom the rest of CBC and blood biochemistries are normal, these results are meaningless. What is your hemoglobin level? Low ferrtin suggests low iron stores. You should consult your doctor about taking oral iron and multivitamin supplement.
