High Monocytes Lyme
My 6 yr old has daily leg pain for 2 months- xrays were normal. Ortho ordered CBC and lyme tests. Monocytes came back elevated. Should I be concerned?
Lyme is caused by borrelia burgdorferi. Acute symptoms can include bullseye rash, headaches, joint pain, fever, and flu like sx. Chronic symptoms can include fibromyalgia symptoms, nerve pain in extremities, mood swings, brain fog, heart problems. Lab diagnosis is not very reliable, and sometimes clinical ...Read more
Was test for Lyme disease and test seem to be normal except for igm is 1.32 high and igm p23 present all else says absent, does this mean I have Lyme?
My ammonia level is 112 and my c reactive protein is high. I have been on a lot of medicine in the past 10 years for lyme. Should i be concerned?
Yes: If this is an accurate ammonia level, you might perhaps even have a mild urea cycle enzyme defect. If you feel well, i'd not be immediately concerned about your liver unless there are other lab abnormalities. ...Read more

My Lyme igg/igm ab test came back at .98. The test range is 0-.90. My doctor says this is negative, although it says high on the test. Is she right?
Merits further tests: With an uncertain test result, a western blot test is appropriate, one that tests for antibodies to several lyme spiroochete body parts, both for igm and igg. Igenex labs in palo alto ca has a very precise western blot test and you can get a blood draw kit with instructions for free (at least your doc can order it) also suggest a cd57 natural killer cell test available through labcorp (only). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Had a bug bite on ankle 4 weeks ago while on East coast in a wildlife area (no high grass). No rash or other symptoms. Worthwhile to test for Lyme?
No: I'm confident here. Lyme disease is both a real entity and a "pop" / "fad" diagnosis. There are normally a lot of lymphocytes in the small intestinal mucosa, though having a lot in the epithelium itself is more suggestive of gluten enteropathy or a few other entities. If you've got lab support for your gluten allergy (which also has "pop" proponents), this is your explanation instead. ...Read more

What could chronically high unconjugated Bilirubin mean in someone with orthostatic syncope, headaches, fatigue, neuropathic pain and a history Lyme?
Probably nothing: You probably have Gilbert's non-disease and some unrelated health problems. I trust your physician is aware of this and has run a reticulocyte count to be sure you are not hemolyzing. Your other symptoms suggest a stressful living situation but there are a host of other entities to rule out -- have you been checked for porphyria? Best wishes. ...Read more
