Dear Doctor. I recently got my blood test and the result shows high MCHC level. What could be the cause? Result is attached.

Question significanc: MCHC is rarely of use as a test as long as you are not anemic (have a normal Hemoglobin (Hb) level). So tell us about your Hb. If it is >12 Gms, you can forget about your MCHC, as it has no significance unless you are Anemic (Hb <12 Gms) ...Read more

No worry: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, none of your results are a cause for concern. Do follow your doctor's advice for follow-up care. Next time you get the test done, drink a couple of glasses of water in the morning before the test. ...Read more

Hi, I'm a 38yr old female whom recently had a complete blood work done and all came back normal except for mchc was low- 31.5 And my rdw was high at 15.5. I'm worried and want to know what this could indicate?

You are NORMAL :): If your blood tests are all normal, specifically CBC test, except for mild abnormality in MCHC and RDW, then you have NO medical conditions and you are NORMAL. Why were MCHC and RDW slightly abnormal? Most likely reason is lab error, which is very common and cannot be avoided. I strongly suspect that if you get a repeat CBC test done, your MCHC and RDW will be normal, like the rest of your tests. ...Read more

My blood tests have come back with high (out of range) RBC and low MCH and MCHC. What could be the cause of this?

Thal minor?: You did not give specific numbers but this is common is thalassemia minor, with red cells too small being produced in generous quantities to make up for their smallish size. It's worth knowing about because marrying someone else with it can produce children with thal major which is very bad. ...Read more

I have lgm level 3.08 g/l and lga level 4.49 raised whote blood cells raised inflammatry levels and mchc level 351g/l what can this be?

Need to examine: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, the data you provided is not diagnostic of any specific disorder and you should discuss it with the doctor who ordered these tests.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

I am 25 yrs old. I had my blood test and got report low calcium and high in mchc; mch; mcv. What these terms mean?

Not enough info.: Lab results usually are numbers, and numbers are just numbers, with little meaning unless a doctor takes in the whole picture of what's going on with his patient. The ordering doctor may or may not consider the results a problem, depending on the patient's symptoms and her past medical conditions. ...Read more

I have a high white blood count low mch and low mchc and high neutrophils{absolute} and high lymphs{absolute} what causes this?

Lots of stuff: These white cell numbers alone can rest from something as simple as a cold shower. If you feel well and all white cells look normal, forget about them. If you have an anemia and/or possible blood loss, the low MCHC / MCH suggests iron deficiency. This happened to me when I was donating a lot of blood and eating mostly vegetarian style. ...Read more

I have bn coughing for year nothing hurts or blood. X-ray came clean, blood tests and mchc and basophil was slightly high, basophil abs was low 0.8?

Maybe GERD: Could be gastresophageal reflux disease (GERD). Would need a 24 or 48 hour pH study, best if done off anti-acid medication, to find out. May also need upper endoscopy, upper GI contrast X-ray, and even esophageal manometry. I would see a gastroenterologist for a consultation to find out more. Hope this helps! ...Read more

What does high hct high MCV and low mchc mean in blood work?

Spurious vs real: Need good history. Decrease plasma volume or stress erythrocytosis would be spurious.
Secondary causes could include anything associated with tissue hypoxia ex. Chronic pulmonary disease. Normal arterial po2 could mean increase carboxyhemoglobinemia 2nd to cigarette smoking. Inappropriate increase ex renal disorders;ex renal cyst or ca.
Primary cause; p. Vera bone marrow disorder.
Few examples. ...Read more

What does a high MCH and a high MCHC mean on a blood test. My Folic Acid was also high. Thank you! ?

Need the numbers: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it would have been helpful to have the actual numbers. High MCH and MCHC in themselves are not a cause for concern. High folic acid is okay too. ...Read more

Lokking at the ranges that I recieved for my daughter some of the blood counts seems high for WBC, mchc according to the ranges printed?

Normal?: The normal range for a lab is determined by the average results. It is common to have a few results outside the normal range. It is rare that a single lab test in isolation is helpful. It needs to be evaluated in conjunction with the medical history and physical examination. If you have questions, call the doctor's office. They have all the information needed to determine what is normal. ...Read more

Labs, hematocrit high 46.9, MCHC low at 31.9 and red blood cell high at 5.16. Had labs done myself. What could cause this. Anxious something's wrong!

Try HealthTap PRIME: Lab results usually are numbers, and numbers are just numbers, with little meaning unless a doctor takes in the whole picture of what's going on with his patient. "Creating patient anxiety" is one of the arguments against people doing their own lab tests. One can try HealthTap PRIME for a virtual consultation, in which a doctor can ask questions and look over the lab results, to explain them. ...Read more

Blood work CBC and CMP all normal except BUN high 23 and MCHC low 30 for the past 2 months. Any indications or interpretation?

? dehydration: BUN was higher than normal. It may have been because you did not drink enough water before the test. If creatinine is within normal limits, a high BUN is not worrisome. However you should discuss it with your doctor and decide if repeating the test is warranted. ...Read more

Hi my white blood count is 13, 000 and my absolute neutrophils are high. Also have high MCV and mchc. Family history of leukemia.?

Not particularly con: These are nonspecific findings and may just be normal variation or a response to a stressor whether recognized or not. Completely depends upon the clinical context in which they were drawn. There were apparently no concerning abnormal cells and you did not mention any anemia or low platelet counts. Best test would be to re measure and discuss with your doc. ...Read more

My blood test shows that.... Thet Hgb, PCV normal and RBCs Count high and MCV, MCH and MCHC low and RDW-CV high. .......what is that means?

Thalassemia minor?: With normal packed cell volume, high red cell count, low MCV, I'd consider you may have thalassemia minor. This is good to know because if you marry someone else who has this, the children may have the very serious thalassemia major. Talk with your physician about this and what he/she thinks is actually going on. ...Read more

My mcv, mch, mchc and hemoglobin are all a tad low. Rdw a tad high. All the rest of my blood work is completely normal. Doc says mild anemia?

Need data: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it would have helped to have the actual data, rather than your interpretation of "tad low".

What does high mchc 36.1, high neuts (abs) 7.1 high monos (abs) 1.1 and high potassium 5.6 mean in my sons blood results he's 10 months old?

Nonspecific findings: These changes are close to normal values and may represent nonimportant nonsignificant findings. The only way to see if there is abnormality in the blood is to examine the peripheral blood smear and look at the leukocytes and red blood cells and platelets under the microscope the high potassium is the more problematic test result in should be re-checked in one month. ...Read more

Anemia needs exam: Hi Patricia. I need to know your real numbers. I suspect RBC is 1.97 Vs abt 5.0 for healthy. Then if Hgb, MCV, MCHC all low, you have anemia and needs treatment which Depends on cause. It can be either low production from your organ or increased turnover or blood loss.
