Hiv (Definition)

Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. An elisa test (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). You may also detect it by doing a test referred to as a western blot (a gel protein electrophoresis). Thirdly by pcr (polymerase chain reaction) which ...Read more

Can a high lymphocyte reading be a symptom of HIV? Or is a low lymphocyte reading is more indicative of HIV?

Get tested for HIV: If you have any concern about HIV infection, get tested for HIV. Lymphocyte counts are not a reliable indicator of presence or absence of HIV. ...Read more

Low lymphocyte count last three tests. Went from 17% to 13% to 19% over a year. Range is 22%No hiv. All other normal except neutrophils high. Mean?

Not really low!: Your lymphocyte counts are fine. They will fluctuate up and down and are not a fixed number. Tell us about your neutrophil /WBC counts. Then we can make it more clear for you. We need a complete blood count (CBC) report before one can advice you. ...Read more

HIV Test: Hiv antibody testing is highly sensitive and specific, meaning if one has the antibody, the test is unlikely to miss it, unless performed early on before antibodies can be detected. Other tests such as HIV viral load & pcr are available & rarely indicated if the antibody test is normal. Constellation of the symptoms described are more likely due to an isolated etiology than hiv. Practice safety. ...Read more

I have lymph nodes appearing in neck which is under 1cm after ultra sound, all test neg HIV-mono-ebv, elevated lymphocytes do I need bone morrow biops?

I have lymph nodes appearing in neck which is under 1cm after ultra sound, all test neg HIV-mono-ebv, elevated lymphocytes do I need bone morrow biops?

Probably not: Such small lymph nodes often are normal, and if the nodes are not enlarging, that's additional evidence against a serious condition. If any sort of biopsy is needed, it would be to remove one of the nodes, not a distant site like bone marrow. May also depend on how elevated your lymphocytes are. Probably nothing more need be done now, but discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

Gerd petechiae enlarge liver no hep some blood in urine 2 Swollen glands neck elevated lymphocytes but hiv neg after 7 months? What could it be help!

Specialist: My advice is to consult an infectious disease specialist. Although rare, seronegative cases of hiv do occur and require a RNA testing to detect viremia although I would expect the specialist to order any appropriate tests in order to make a diagnosis in your case after he/she evaluates you. Bring all your test results to the appointment. ...Read more

Sir I did have HIV test combo it was negative but I saw something the lymphocyte was higher 54 % and everything else normal?

HIV: There can be marked variations in the WBC differential without an obvious cause. You do not say what HIV test you were given and the time period after exposure that the testing was done. You should receive repetitive tests up to three months after exposure at least. Acute HIV infection may be completely asymptomatic. ...Read more

My lymphocyte has been droping from44 to 28 in four years. Could this be sign of having hiv?

No: HIV would have probably dropped it far lower. Lymphocyte counts actually fluctuate wildly even from hour to hour. However, the fact that you asked this question tells me you have some reason to be concerned about having HIV, and this is itself a reason to be tested. In most countries, it's considered wise to be checked yearly if you're dating at all. Best wishes. ...Read more

What antiviral drug prevents the attachment and penetration of HIV into t lymphocytes?

HIV Fusion & Entry: In order for the HIV virus to enter CD4+ "Helper" Tcells, HIV glycoproteins gp120 and gp41 interact with the CD4+Tcell receptor and CCR5 and CXCR4 on the CD4+ Tcell. There are two FDA drugs that are either fusion or entry inhibitors. The reason these drugs are important is because some patients become resistant to the other classes and these can be used. Iam negative hiv, hep a, b and c after 2 years post exposure, but I found out I have a low lymphocyte count, could my reults be false negative?

False Test results: Nope. There are a number of more common reasons for a fluctuating lymphocyte count (i am very curious why any healthy person would be having their lymphocytes tested) but if you were negative for these infections and no new exposures then you are most likely negative for them still. ...Read more

Can a hiv combo test be wrong after 3weeks, p24 + antibody negative I went to my doctor and he said I had reactive lymphocytes. I have given symptoms?

Reassuring, but...: At 3 weeks, the "combo" or "duo" HIV blood test is positive 80-90% of the time, so your result is reassuring. However, you need follow-up testing to be certain, e.g. another combo test at 4+ weeks. If your exposure was particularly high risk (e.g. unprotected anal, known positive partner) and/or your symptoms typical for new HIV, ask your doctor about other tests, such as DNA/RNA testing. ...Read more

You have entered: Quite a bit of data here in 3 lines. The percentages are not as important as the absolute numbers (the total WBC multiplied by the % neuts and % lymphs). The fact that a detailed work-up has been undertaken confirms that you need to continue with the evaluating physician for a plan for further testing. ...Read more

HIV -. What does this mean from testing lymphocyte subset panel 5 test? Lymphocytes abs. 3925H, CD4, abs. 1938H cd4% 49. What does this lab mean to me

Good result.: Your CD4 count is the important number.
Yours is over a thousand. Anything over 350 is excellent and means your immune system is working. If you are taking ART medicines, keep doing so, everyday, meticulously they are working.
If you are not taking them you should see a doctor experienced in Aids management. ...Read more

Dear sir, I have sex with one sex worker and after 6 weeks my lymphocytes count drop to 17 % (1400).This is a sign of HIV infection?

Possible, but...: A low lymphocyte count could be suggestive of HIV infection, but is not definitive. It is very nonspecific. A variety of other infections may also cause a low lymphocyte count, including bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. If concerned about HIV infection, you really need to get an HIV antibody test to determine your status. ...Read more

Dear sir, I have sex with one sex worker and after 6 weeks my lymphocytes count drop to 17 % (1400).This is a sign of HIV infection?

Perhaps: It "might" be an indicator of HIV infection, or could be a "left-shift" to more pmns indicating that your body is attempting to fight off an acute infection (likely bacterial...And not impossibly from the sex worker). If concerned, you should get the propper test to answer your question--an HIV test. Discuss w/your dr, as also may need recheck cbc, and other std testing. ...Read more

Dear sir, I have sex with one sex worker and after 6 weeks my lymphocytes count drop to 17 % (1400).This is a sign of HIV infection?

Get tested: Sex with someone who engages in commercial sex work carries an increased risk of exposure to hiv, especially if you did not use a condom during the encounter. A CBC is not a reliable test for hiv. After a risky exposure, one should be tested for HIV antibody at weeks 6, 12 and 24 after exposure. If you have a flu-like illness that lasts more than a few days, your doc may also test HIV rna. ...Read more
