Dr. ASHRAF MALEK answered:

What do high levels of bilirubin in the blood stream result in?

Depends

Blood
High bilirubin can be due to various type of diseases, including liver diseases, blood disorders. I am not sure whether your other liver tests are normal or not. If you have this for long time, you should seek medical attention. Transient minimal or mild high bilirubin can be benign also.

Dr. Emil Shakov answered:

I had a laproscopic surgery for gall bladder stones&now my bilirubin level is12.i went for scan, its result is mild hepatomegaly,is it dangerous?

Possibly

Surgery
If you just had the surgery or recently it could be that they cut your bile duct, occluded your bile duct, or you have a leak from the liver. A CT scan will show fluid collections to determine if possible leak. You need to look at indirect bilirubin to know if it is obstruction. I would rule those out first and if negative the liver needs to be evaluated maybe biopsy, see your surgeon

How serious is a result of 3.5 for bilirubin, a level of 56 for AST, and 175 for alkaline phosphatase, S? Serum albumin is 3.2 and calcium is 8.2.

Jaundiced?

Calcium
Your bilirubin is elevated, and you need to be evaluated to check your full liver functions.

Dr. Ed Friedlander answered:

Why does strenuous exercise lead to elevated bilirubin level in blood?

Hemolysis

Pathologist
Very strenuous exercise that involves pavement-pounding can destroy enough red blood cells that the bilirubin and reticulocyte counts go up. As a pathologist, I'm always reminding folks to look at the person, not the numbers. If your bilirubin's up and it's not jogger's hemolysis or Gilbert's, try to find the cause with your physician's help.

Dr. Mark Kuhnke answered:

My bilirubin result is -> 22 which I understand is elevated. I didn't drink any liquids for about 14 hours prior to the test. Could this be why?

Not really

Bile
If your lft's and bilirubin are elevated you need to have this evaluated. It's not because you were even somewhat dehydrated. So, you and your doctor should discuss this result and go forward. Good luck.

Can a high total bilirubin level of 3.0 kill you?

Usually not

Total_bilirubin
The most common cause is gilberts syndrome a genetic syndrome where a specific liver enzyme it missing. Patients with this syndrome can have elvated bilirubins when fasting or stressed. They live a normal lifespan and the elevated bilirubin may be protective. There are other causes of elevated bilirubin like gallstones, but you probably should check with your doctor.

What can I do if I'm suffering from jaundice with very high sgpt, serum ldh and bilirubin level?

Hepatitis

Hepatitis_b
Your physician will do labs, take a history, and hopefully find the correct diagnosis. If it is acute hepatitis B or C, it is a relatively easy and familiar situation, but hepatitis from alcohol, drug allergy, Wilson's, or any of several dozen other possibilities, the diagnosis may be more difficult. Good luck.

Probably not

Hepatitis_a
A level of 8 indicated serious problem but is not high enough to cause damage to other organs. The underlying disease might though in certain cases, not hepatitis A.
