Doctor insights on:
My test results were 60.20 hsv1 Igg a high positive. That seem way higher than the regular positive rate!! My doctor did not seem alarmed!! Is that ok?

I tested positive for hsv1 at 62.20 High it says, but I haven't had a coldsore since elementary school, is this an old or new infection?
Probably old: All that can be said from this test result is that you have been infected with HSV1 for at least several weeks. The number itself says nothing about how long, and it could be since childhood. If your cold sores all those years ago were typical oral herpes -- i.e. blister-like sores on the outside of the mouth, not canker sores inside -- you can safely assume it explains your positive test. ...Read more
My IgG type specific test results were HSV1: 50.40 and HSV2: 17.60. This means I have both viruses correct? I'm confused why they are so high.
How high (%) are chances of passing on HSV1 with an active sore through kissing and oral sex? Does the other one automatically have HSV1, too?
HSV1 transmission: There is no way to know the exact risk. For sure the partner will not "automatically" be infected. Among other things, many people have HSV1 but don't know it; they will not be infected, because the immune system prevents reinfection with the same HSV type. But for sure the infected person should avoid exposing other persons by kissing or performaing oral sex during outbreaks. ...Read more
Herpes results back and hsv1 came back IgG 53.60. Does that mean I have had this virus for over three months? What does hsv, i/II 1.48 high mean?
Can't tell.: The presence of IgG usually means the production of a protective (usually but not always) antibody from past exposure but can't tell you how far in the past. I don't know what hsv i/II high means however since I can't make sense out of it. The presence of IgM ab would point to a recent or current infection. ...Read more
I gave birth last yr & for 6 months now, I've had hsv1 oral breakouts. I'm still breastfeeding and taking high dose meds for it, why won't it go away?
Hormone changes: Hsv activates in response to many things that put stress on your immune system, including illness, medications, period, pregnancy, even chapped lips! you ask the $64000 question: why can't we cure viruses? Who knows? You're taking the best route to controlling it. Be careful to not touch your baby after your lips. 95% of those infected will infect even if no lesion present! Wash hands a lot! ...Read more
Hsv1 IgG 53.60 high Hsv 2 IgG <0.91 Hsv IgM I/II combo 1.48 high What does all this mean? My herpes results from the lab! Doc wasn't helpful
HSV serology: Without knowing specifically what test technique was utilized cannot give you specifics other than to say that you have had Herpes simplex Type 1 infection sometime in the past and probably have not had Type 2, since even though you show some antibody it may be overlap from the Type 1 antibody. Why wasn't the doctor helpful? Talk to them and insist. Why did you do this anyway? ...Read more
Chances of getting hsv1 receiving fellatio from high risk partner, no visible mouth sores? Itchy urethra for a month, no noticeable lesions. What isit
Not herpes. NGU?: If the oral partner doesn't have a visible oral herpes outbreak, the chance of HSV transmission from any single exposure is probably one in 1000 or even lower. Herpes doesn't cause "itchy urethra" as the only symptom, and herpes symptoms never last for a month. So for sure not herpes. If any discharge, maybe nongonococcal urethritis or, much less likely, gonorrhea. See doctor if symptoms continue. ...Read more

Very Easy: Kissing can spread it, using the same silverware, the same toothbrush, etc. It cannot be spread unless you are in an "active" phase, but the active phase starts before the lesion appears, so theoretically someone who has hsv-1 is always contagious. Talk to your dentist about valcyclovir and take a look at abreva (otc). These 2 medicines shorted the outbreak and decrease future outbreaks. ...Read more
Unsure: I realize that your question has been present for some time. I am unsure what you are specifically asking. Do you have the results of a test that you want explained? HIV: Statistics are meaningless because many people with HIV disease are unaware that they have it and have not been diagnosed. Therefore there is a large uncounted pool out there. Symptoms of acute disease do occur, usually as a mononucleosis-like syndrome, but there may be none until the patient is profoundly immune suppressed. If you want numbers, go to cdc website. ...Read more
Salivary exchange: The short and simple answer to this is to not exchange saliva with an infected person. If they are infected and the virus is not active, the risk of transmission is lower. Contact with an infectious area of the skin during re-activations of the virus via kissing is to be avoided for the least amount of risk. ...Read more
Yes: Hsv type 1 and type 2 infections are chronic/life long. Even without a flare up, the virus is produced by your cells at low levels and you can be contagious. Not all causes of flare ups are clear; they tend to occur during times when the immune system is decreased. This can occur with stress, fighting other infections (like a cold) or with certain meds. Certain meds can decrease contagiousness. ...Read more
Depends on test used:
The question really hinges on exactly what test was used (there are several), so you will need to discuss this in detail with your healthcare provider.
Some HSV antibody tests have high rates of false positives and false negatives.

If you already have hsv1 orally, does that mean you cannot get hsv1 genitally since you already have it?
HSV 1 and HSV 2: Herpes simplex is divided into two types: HSV type 1 and HSV type 2. Both of these conditions can affect your mouth or your genitals, and can be spread via oral sex. There no cure for HSV infection and often stress is an aggravating factor. Cold sores generally clear up without treatment within 10-14 days. Hope it helps. ...Read more
Can I get hsv1 by sharing a hookah (same tip) with people who I later found out may be hsv1 positive? If so, how likely if they had no visible sores?
The herpes virus can occasionally be spread when there are no symptoms due to a phenomena known as viral shedding.
It is possible for a person to carry the herpes virus without knowing that they have it, in fact, up to 80% of people who are infected with hsv-1 show no signs of the infection. So it is possible for a person to unwittingly transmit the infection to their partner. ...Read more
My new boyfriend tested positive for HSV1 in his military physical. Should we break up? Is this something you're always tested for? What should I do?
Normal finding: This is normal! Half of all adults test in the US (up to 90% in some countries) test positive for HSV1. Usually it's due to oral herpes acquired in childhood. Even if genital, HSV1 is rarely sexually transmitted to partners. Of course you should not break up over this. (Even gential herpes due to HSV2 would not, in itself, be a good reason to break up.) ...Read more
