High Gamma Gt Symptoms
My Wife is 30 years Old and has High Gamma GT, AST and ALT even after repetitive Test. Gamma GT 41 ALT 69 AST 51 Leukocytes TRACE WITH WBC 11-30?
Many causes: There are many potential causes for these persistent abnormalities. Fatty liver disease, medications, alcohol use, thyroid disease, celiac disease, chronic viral hepatitis, autoimmune disease, and certain genetic abnormalities. I recommend you see a gastroenterologist or hepatologist for further testing. ...Read more
Liver. High gamma GT levels in liver function tests rest clear. I have never drank alcohol. All scans clear, had lead poison as a child. Low ferrittin too
Probably just you: About 1 person in 1000 has an autosomal dominant tendency to a high ggt. These people get accused wrongly of being closet drinkers. It's really unfortunate and I'm sorry this happened to you. I trust you're not on any medications that might be doing this. ...Read more
I have a series of high gamma GT blood level I don't consume alcohol and never have, what other reasons are. Ct scan says clear, anyideas why?
Results are numbers: Lab results are just numbers, so a doctor is needed to look at the whole picture of the patient's situation. Gamma-glutamyltransferase (ggt) is an enzyme that occurs in liver cells. If there is a reason to suspect liver disease, then the GGT blood test can be done. If the result is high, damage to liver cells is suspected, but it can be from gallstones, infection, etc..., not just alcohol use. ...Read more
Sober, with f1 hepc and recent high gamma GT of 93, high AST of 47, normal ALT of 46. Gallstones and tenderness and feeling of heat in top right of rib.
Biliary colic: Gallstone attacks aka biliary colic are right sided, above the umbilicus, lasts 20 minutes or longer, associated with nausea and occasional vomiting. Fatty foods make it worse. Go for a surgery consult. Gallstones can be dangerous when infection or obstruction occur. Risk benefit analysis is in favor of gallbladder removal. Hep c does not change this recommendation. Be well. ...Read more
Alt down from 77 to 64 after 3 weeks. Gamma GT was high at 64 but now in normal range. Should I be concerned. Doc said follow up bloods in 2 months.
Agree with Doctor: May not be anything to be concerned about but needs to be followed. If Hepatitis Panel is all negative than my just represent NASH but you need to see your doctor in follow up in two months to be sure nothing is missed. ...Read more
My liver test results are as below --- bilirubin 1.74mg/dl and gamma GT 48.7 iu/l, it shows high in report. What are the risks and how to treat?
Means nothing alone: These labs are meaningless in the absence of clinical data and other labs. These may simply be normal for you; folks with gilbert's run high bilirubin but are healthy, and many folks run high GGT in this range. The ranges are set so that several % of healthy folks fall outside. If you're on a medication that can cause cholestasis and this is new, consider discontining. Insist your doctor explain. ...Read more
My liver gamma gt is 75 normal value is 10 to 60 and globulins 3.7 normal value is 1.8 to 3.5 (i had gallbladder removel surgery before 15 day) plz tell me why is this high rating?
Liver: In view of recent gall bladder problems, possible inflammation and gall bladder surgery, I recommend waiting another couple of weeks before performing complete liver function testing including hepatitis A, B and C panel. In addition you should abstain from alcohol until the tests are completed. A gastroenterologist can advise you better, however. ...Read more
In my blood tests, I have high levels of trigliceridos (234 mg/dl), got (ast) (37.4ui/l), gpt (alt) (59.3ui/l), gamma-gt (52.3ui/l). Are these levels bad?
The AST and ALT: Are barely elevated. The triglycerides must be interpreted in the context of the last meal. Where you fasting? ...Read more

I have high sgpt of 66, while normal sgot&gamma-gt and I have no hepatitis a, b, or c & no liver disease and no std's, it is due to atihypertensive drugs?
Likely: I trust that hemochromatosis and wilson's were ruled out. You might get ultrasounded for fatty liver and/or recommended to increase your level of fitness. This is not especially high -- some healthy folks fall here -- and if your physican is not concerned, I would not be either. ...Read more
Depends on why: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, Elevated ggt is an indication of liver cell damage. The common causes are alcohol, viral infections and drugs. You need to consult your doctor to determine the cause and treat it accordingly. If you drink alcohol, stop entirely. ...Read more
My husband has blood in urine and test indicates elevated monocytes and gamma GT what does this mean?
Not sure.: I don't believe there is a connection here. I suspect you have collected some random data. What you really need to know is what symptoms he has and how these labs and other unmentioned labs compare to priors. His doctor should probably explain these to him. ...Read more
ALT 57 for 2 yrs. AST 33, Gamma GT 47, Bilirubin 0.5. Anti HCV & HbsAg negative, no fatty liver. I have Ps Arthritis. Why ALT is elevated for 2 yrs?
Liver disease.: There are a few other potential causes which may be pursued with simple lab testing (wilsons disease, alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency, autoimmune hepatitis, etc), but if this all turns out negative (as I expect it might) then you will need to consider biopsy. If your numbers have been stable I am not sure this would be particularly useful for you. ...Read more
Amyloidosis, all my symptoms, heart, liver high ggt, brain, neurological, gasrto and urinary, lungs. GFR not released, what is the genetic blood test?
Self-diagnosis?: Amyloidosis can mimic anything. It's not especially treatable so there's no hurry diagnosing it. Ask about a serum protein electrophoresis and urine test for Bence-Jones for amyloid AL. Amyoid AF is a neuropathy / pain syndrome and I wouldn't waste the money. Amyloid AA labwork isn't specific; it's rare in the absence of leprosy etc. I'd have a fat biopsy -- maybe you actually do have it. ...Read more
Other findings?: Serum level of GGT of 67 is higher than normal and suggests injury to liver. However, an isolated lab test is not a reason to worry. What did other tests show? Do you drink? If you do, abstain for 2-3 weeks and repeat the test. Are you on any medications, including herbs and over the counter drugs? Discuss all these issues with your doctor to identify the cause of liver injury. ...Read more
Hard to say: Until age 60, GGT tends to increase as the years go by, faster in men than in women. At any age and for any level of drinking, it's about twice as high in african-americans. This makes for unfair situations as GGT is often used as a screen to see if someone is secretly abusing alcohol. If my GGT were above 100 regardless of who I was, I would wonder; however, it's a poor screen for disease. ...Read more
Halo, I had a medical done for work, after a long weekend (have been drinking that weekend) and they found my GAMMA GT is 100. They want to send me for a CDT test. So except for keeping away from alcohol, what else can I do, to help? I will be doing the C
Don't treat a lab: This worries me just a bit. I understand you are overweight and if the other liver enzymes are on the high side, this may your body's way of letting you know that it wants less to eat and more opportunities to exercise. If your physician is not overly concerned, I would not be either -- it's the very high values of GGT that usually are tip-offs to serious illness. ...Read more
Both are normal: Assuming the standard units, those numbers are normal. As to whether your liver is "bad, " it depends on the context that these tests were ordered - are you having some issues that makes you or your doctor think your liver is bad? ...Read more
Maybe nothing: About 1 person in 1000 has an autosomal dominant gene that produces a high GGT without anything else being abnormal. These folks get accused of being secret boozers which is unfair. Trusting everything else is good and that you drink seldom or not at all. ...Read more
