High Fever Temperature For Kids
About body temperature (fever). Are adult fevers lower than children's fevers for the same illnesses?
High fever( 103)in 15 months old. With tylenol (acetaminophen) comes down for 2 hours. Is high temperature ok?
Fever from what?: A 103 fever by itself will not hurt the child. The question is, what is causing the fever? If it is the same respiratory virus (common cold) that the rest of the family has it is not a worry and may last up to 5-7 days. However, if the child has an undiagnosed ear infection, pneumonia or urinary tract infection, that would be more worrisome. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
See a doctor: Fever usually means that the body is raising the temperature to stop viral or bacterial attacks. An infant retains the mother's antibodies for about 3 months. The infant's immature immune system takes over so the baby becomes more vulnerable . If the baby's temperature is very high or very low, it may be very serious go to emergency dept, hydrate, tepid not cold water for cooling, take a temperature. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

9 yr old girl w high fever (101-104.5 ear) for 48 hrs and NO other symptoms.Alternating Adv/Tyl when temp reaches 102.She had febrile seizure @ 18 mths.High fever common 4 her, but not so long?
Youre on right track: Most fevers in kids are viral & improve within 72hrs. If not below 101 by 72hrs, or if having other worrisome symptoms, then seek care. Children under 3months old should be seen for any temp over 100.4. Reserving meds for higher fevers or feeling ill is good practice. Febrile seizures are rare at 9yrs old, and fever meds won't prevent seizures anyway. Hope she feels better soon. She probably will. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Pls suggest medicines for low grade fever with few symptoms of cold and cough for my 2 yr old child, please note child 's appetite , water intake r normal.?
Common cold: Benadryl liquid is good for both cough and cold in young children. Adjust dosage according to your child's weight per instruction from drug company. Low grade fever can be just monitored without treatment as some scientists believe fever is a natural mechanism for the body to fight infection. High fever should be treated with Motrin or tylenol (acetaminophen) to avoid seizure from overheating of the brain! ...Read more
7 year old child with fever of 103°, called pedi, told to alternating ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Fever was as high as 104° is that ER time?
If parent is worried: Whether or not a 7 yr old with a fever of 104 needs to go to the E.R. Depends on if the parent is very worried, and if the child actually has serious symptoms. If the parent is very worried, he should take the child to the E.R. No matter what the fever is. But, a normal healthy 7yr kid who looks pretty good, acts pretty normal, and just started a high fever, usually can see the dr. In the morning. ...Read more

Wheezing?: Is he wheezing? Try xoponex mdi ( available by prescription only). May be you are dealing with scute bronchitis ( instead of infection)! sed rate just indicates 'inflammation' anywhere in body ( may be chest? ). And TLC not impressive. 5yo daughter fever for 9 days now. Temp at 39.9c highest, reacts to acetaminophen to <37.5 but climbs back post dosage time.
Fever not breaking. why?
Needs diagnosis: You should take your child to a doctor to figure out 'what' is going on. Acetaminophen will indeed 'mask' the fever, but you need to find out the 'root cause' of the problem. For any fever that's prolonged like this, she needs a thorough evaluation. I don't want to scare you, but a self-limited illness should be done and over with by now. An infectious diseases specialist would be able to help. ...Read more

Depends: Continued fever with pneumonia while already on oral antibiotics can be of concern. It may be indicative of a pleural effusion (fluid in the lining of the lung). It can also just mean you need to give the antibiotics more time to work. I suggest discussing this with your doctor and getting a chest x-ray. ...Read more
