Hand & foot rash: Many skin conditions can involve hands & feet. Some of them are erythema multiforme, that looks like little targets, usually triggered by a cold sore eruption but could be due to medications, a viral infection called hand, foot & mouth disease that has oval blisters surrounded by rim of red on palms, soles and in mouth. My 5yr old son has extremely dry skin on his feet, its starting to really peel. He got a real high fever from strep throat, and that brought on a rash, that lead to the dry skin. Wanting to know what I can get to help his dry feet
Often : Often times when a person has strep throat they develop a rash. This rash is caused by a toxin that's released by the strep bacteria. It sounds like that rash has subsided and has left behind the characteristic dry peeling skin. Don't worry this is the normal course for this type of rash and the peeling and dryness should subside completely after about 10 days or so. In the mean time keep his skin clean and moisturized. Try thick emollient creams, they usually come in a jar, or plain vaseline. Be patient; in time he will be completely back to normal. ...Read more

Hand Foot and Mouth: The rash you described sounds like hand foot and mouth disease. This is caused by a virus, and will usually last for about a week. You can treat your child's pain or fever with Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Motrin, and it is very important that you child remain hydrated, so give frequent fluids (water or Pedialyte). You should see your pediatrician if difficulty breathing, lethargy or dehydration develop. ...Read more
Tiny red spots back of 3 yr old throat, tummy pain, high fever, no appetite. Doc says hand foot mouth. But what else could it be and can I look out 4?
Strep throat: Strep usually causes abdominal pain; but if he had a strep test and it is negative, likely the doctor is right and it could be hand-foot-mouth. Feed soft lukewarm foods and plenty of room temp liquids, nothing scratchy, acid or carbonated and use Acetaminophen for discomfort--should be better in a few days. It is possible to have both. ...Read more

Related? Maybe not.: This could be related to the past chickenpox infex, but maybe not. When you're fighting off one thing, it's easier to pick up another illness. Be sure to see a doctor. At the very least, I'd do a test for strep throat if I saw a patient with these complaints. Take care of yourself, and be sure not to overdo it. Eat well and good caffeine-free fluid intake! Get enough sleep! ...Read more
