Fat in nuts lowers hdl-cholesterol, or the fat in nuts lowers ldl- cholesterol?

Fat in nuts lowers hdl-cholesterol, or the fat in nuts lowers ldl- cholesterol?

Nuts good for HDL: Eating nuts tends to increase HDL (good) cholesterol and decrease LDL (bad) cholesterol. The effect is larger if triglycerides are also elevated. See this excellent review paper for more information: http://www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/pmc/articles/pmc3257681 also remember that weight loss and exercise improve cardiovascular risk substantially. ...Read more

Does eating high fat but low carb foods make you lose weight but higher cholesterol levels or is ingested fats also stored as fat in our bodies?

Does eating high fat but low carb foods make you lose weight but higher cholesterol levels or is ingested fats also stored as fat in our bodies?

Fat has calories: Fatty foods are packed with calories, twice the number of carbs or proteins for the same amount of food. So high fat is not going to help you lose weight just because you are avoiding starches and sugars (carbs). Your total calorie intake needs to go down and/or your exercise up to lose weight. Start reading labels with portion size and calorie content as well as the breakdown carb/protein/fats. ...Read more

Do excess carbs/sugars get converted into saturated fat in our bodies? And if so, then would a high fat/low carb diet be healthier than a high carb/low fat diet?

Do excess carbs/sugars get converted into saturated fat in our bodies? And if so, then would a high fat/low carb diet be healthier than a high carb/low fat diet?

Yes and No: Yes, you are right in that excess of carbs/sugars get converted into fat. So do eat carbs, but in moderation. Eating fat doe snot do any good, so i would say no to your second question. What you need to do is choose a balanced diet which has ample amounts of plant based foods which are free of both fats and avoid too much sugar. In addition, get a good amount of proteins by eating fish, nuts & egg. ...Read more

Does eating excess salt result in high cholesterol?

Does eating excess salt result in high cholesterol?

No: Total cholesterol is made up of "good" cholesterol (hdl), "bad" cholesterol (ldl) and triglycerides. You want high hdl, and low LDL & triglycerides. High cholesterol is caused by genetic factors (your body makes too much cholesterol), dietary intake, and lack of exercise. Exercise has been shown to increase HDL and lower ldl. Salt intake does not impact cholesterol levels. ...Read more

Assuming the food i eat is high in total fat but very low in saturated fat & i manage to burn all calories i eat.Is high fat food OK in this scenario?

Assuming the food i eat is high in total fat but very low in saturated fat & i manage to burn all calories i eat.Is high fat food OK in this scenario?

Unknown: I don't think we really know the answer to this excellent question but my impression is that, if you're using all the calories you eat, the fat content is not harmful. I base this on lipid profile results of Dr. Adkins (of the Adkins' diet) who eat a low carb, high fat diet, lose weight, and have no demonstrable harm. Some fats (monounsaturated) in moderation, appear to actually be beneficial. ...Read more

Do medium chain tryglyceride liquid fat soluble vitamins come in pose threat to blood tryglyceride level?

NO: Medium chain triglycerides are a good source of energy that tend to be rapidly metabolized and the amount in fat soluble vitamins tends to be negligible. The main thing that raises are blood triglyceride levels are excess sugars and starches; your body converts most of the starches it does not need to use right away into triglycerides as a form to store them. Would a diet high in protein lead to increased kidney levels? level was slightly high upon admit, increased after given concentrated protein in food

Creatine in muscle: Muscles r mostly made of protein. Creatine (Cr) is from muscle breakdown & a blood test measuring it is often used 2 estimate how well the kidneys work. (Note high Cr means worse kidneys). Cr is also sold as a protein powder for body builders, but 1-2 servings shdn't raise the Cr very much. Regular intake, I suppose, cd have an effect. More likely something else was damaging ur kidney or muscles. ...Read more

Ithink my panctitis, s chronic now. Pain all the time, yellow fatty stool, urine taffy like. Docs say all test came back ok? Why im in pain then?

Gallbladder or liver: If your stools are indeed yellow, possible causes are gallbladder disease. Fatty yellow stools are a characteristic of a parasitic infection which is quite common - giardia - but i would not expect constant pain with giardia. Clay colored stools indicate insufficient bile, potential liver disease. Liver or bile duct disease can cause dark urine. See your doctor and ask about these possibilities. ...Read more
