Is this is normal. Fasting blood sugar 105mg/dl. Post 116mgmissed period 5 days. Planned pregnancy but -ve pregnancy test. Redness in eye early morning.

Depends: Hi. Are those glucoses serum or finger stick? Only serum glucose is approved for diagnosis. If the 105 is a serum glucose, it's not normal. It should be repeated to see if it's reproducible. If it's a reproducible serum glucose, you have impaired fasting glucose. Is the 116 part of a glucose tolerance test after a defined glucose challenge? If so, it is normal. We can't say without more details. ...Read more

Slightly high: Hi. Yes, your fasting blood sugar is slightly high, but for diagnostics, you can't use finger stick glucose, you use serum glucose (drawn from a vein in your arm). Are you overweight/obese? If fasting serum glucose is 5.8 (or reproducibly above 5.5), you have prediabetes. You may be briskly secreting insulin in response to food intake, giving you your symptoms. Is it possible for one to fake a high fasting blood sugar level?

Is it possible for one to fake a high fasting blood sugar level?

With fingersticks: If the hands and fingers aren't clean and dry, home blood sugar readings may be inaccurate. Sugar on the fingers could end up falsely elevating blood sugar. A concomitant venous sample in lab could demonstrate a discrepancy. Also, the meter may be inaccurate. Eating before a fasting blood sugar may raise the blood sugar in someone with diabetes because it would not be fasting anymore. ...Read more

My fasting blood sugar checked daily is in 140s but my after meal and random numbers are all normal. My last a1c was 6.4. why high fasting?

Need for glucose: Tolerance test. Repeat fasting glucose of 140 is considered diagnostic of diabetes. A1c is not a sensitive marker for diabetes. If you have doubts, you may get a glucose tolerance test, however, it would be prudent to alter your diet and life style in keeping a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. Exercising and losing about 10% of body weight may stabilize the disease. Consult this site for info:

Is having a fasting blood sugar level of 106 high? (I had two cups of black coffee before the test)

Is having a fasting blood sugar level of 106 high? (I had two cups of black coffee before the test)

Need to retest: Fasting blood sugar test should be done after an overnight fast of at least 8 hours. Do not eat or drink anything other than water. 106 is not too high but by some it may be considered pre-diabetic.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

My fasting blood sugar level is 106 after 9 hours of my last meal I had at night. Is this high? If it is high what diet should I take to control it?

High fasting glucose: Hi. Yes, that would be a high fasting glucose (upper limit of normal is 99). It should be repeated; if reproducible, you have impaired fasting glucose/prediabetes. Use serum glucose, not finger stick, for diagnosis. Healthy diet: whole grains, legumes, nuts, canola/olive oil, fruits & veggies, lean meat, nonfat dairy; minimize fast food, processed food, saturated fat, white flour, white rice, etc. ...Read more

Non- fasting blood sugar of 114 is this high?

Non- fasting blood sugar of 114 is this high?

Not necessarily: Your glu after a meal varies with what you ate, how fast, the speed of your GI tract, etc. It is hard to precisely say whether your post meal glu are too high. If you are testing your sugars because you have diabetes, or are worried about diabetes, best to check fasting and pre-meal, and follow your a1c. Normal fasting glu is 100 or less. Diabetes is 126 or more. "impaired" is in between. ...Read more
