Mucus colitis: A gastroenterologist is best qualified to evaluate, advise and treat you for these two disorders. Dietary measures are important in both conditions. If you cannot identify triggering foods in your mucus colitis episodes, the gastroenterologist may recommend the fodmap diet and may prescribe antispasmodic medications like bentyl (dicyclomine) to control episodes of colitis. ...Read more

What fact I have high SGOT, SGPT, GGT. But not hepatitis. As now my liver test is back to normal but my ESR 51. I worry, the infection recurred.?
I have high sgot, sgpt & ggt. After 1 month all back to normal (medication be given). but my ESR 51. I still have sign nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.
Hepatitis: By definition, you have hepatitis -the question is 'what kind' - so hopefully your doc did some investigation - because once you know what it is caused by, the treatment plan can be implemented. An ESR or 'sed rate' is non-specific and could relate to the symptoms you have. Hope your doc has some answers because u should find out what this is and therefore how to handle your symptoms. Feel better. ...Read more

My nine yr old has elevated levels of ESR, AST & ALT also anemic she complains of intermittent pain on her left side?
My nine yr old has elevated levels of ESR, AST & ALT also anemic she has hashimoto syndrome she complains of intermittent pain on her left side?
Needs investigation: I thought Hashimoto's disease involves the thyroid. It would not have anything to do with the elevated AST and ALT. These enzymes suggest some kind of liver involvement. An elevated ESR may mean that there is some inflammatory process going on in the body, but the intermittent pain on the left side does not fit with any of the above. Bottom line, your child's doctor will have to check him/her out ...Read more
Is liver disease a death sentence? I have high CRP doc says related to obesity but he always runs esr/alt/ast and I don't know why?
Absolutely not: In fact, the pathology community is talking about doing away with the word "cirrhosis" altogether because we now know it's often reversible. Alt/ast are markers in obese people for obesity-related liver disease (rule out other causes) but this is extremely common & only occasionaly lethal. However, obesity is serious and much more likely to detract from your quality and length of life. ...Read more
I have autoimmune hepatitis, AST is 28 and ALT is elevated 66. My CRP is 0.1 and my ESR is 2. Does this mean inflammation is not the cause?
Trending up or down?: Some questions to put your concern ; lab results in context: 1) how long have you had autoimmune hepatitis? 2) what treatment are you taking ; have your medications changed recently? 3) alcohol intake (should be minimal)? 3) supplements or steroid use? 4) are your transaminases trending up or down (a useful question if CRP ; ESR are low)? 4) risks for other kinds of hepatitis (viral, etc.)? ...Read more
GGT: Serum GGT or GGTP (same) elevates when bile ducts and biliary tissue is inflamed or irritated. Common cause is a gall stone. Hemangioma in the liver rarely may elevate GGT but usually other liver enzymes go up too. A drug may elevate GGT. Then, there is the remote possibility of bile duct tumor or pancreatic tumor. Please be in contact with your doc. Imaging is essential. ...Read more
My blood test came back high in certain areas: GGT 217, ALT 157, AST 101 and ap 197. Should I be worried?
Yes indeed: Your physician may take you off all meds and alcohol and repeat, or simply go on to test you for hepatitis b and c, hemochromatosis, wilson's, autoimmune hepatitis and perhaps a few others. If no cause is found, aerobic exercise may be the way to better all-around health and lower liver enzymes. ...Read more
Liver enzymes: Sometimes this can be due to gallbladder problems/stones. It is common in women 20s-40s, especially if they are overweight. There is also fatty liver disease where your liver fails to process the dietary fats efficiently, common with obesity. Medication can be a cause, especially those metabolized by the liver. Infection and other inflammatory causes are possible. Your doctor can tell you more. ...Read more
Hi I have elevated ALT 96 and GGT 68... AST and everything else is normal... I do not drink and smoke occasionally. Do I need to worry?
Is it possible that I have NASH if my us showed fatty liver and my GGT and ALT are high but my AST is fine? Don't see dr till may 1.
My GGT has gone to 150-200, but my AST/ALT are fine. My blood sugar is high (110 fasting) and has been diet/ex controlled so far. What should I do?
May just be you: Some people run high GGT's -- it's hereditary. I'm concerned that someone has diagnosed you with "cirrhosis of the liver" -- if this is the case, it's very serious, but it you just had elevated liver enzymes, perhaps it's a mistake. Get with your physician and keep up with diet and fitness. Best wishes. ...Read more
Though ALP is within normal range, it is elevating, with GGT, AST and ALT elevated to 69 U/L, 69U/L and 113 U/L. WHat could this mean?
Need work up: Elevated liver enzymes should be repeated off alcohol and any meds that are not essential. If still up, you need to be tested for hepatitis B and C, hemochromatosis, Wilson's, and autoimmune hepatitis. Your liver might actually just be asking you for more exercise. Best wishes. ...Read more

Recent blood test shows high direct bilirubin. Total bilirubin is 0.7 &direct0.5 and indirect 0.2. ALT, AST, GGT, Alk. Phos are in normal range. Is it ok?
All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, there is nothing in your results to be concerned about.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
