What does it mean to have high dhea sulfate levels (elevated adrenal hormones)? What are the problems associated with this? What can it lead to?
By itself: A high (how high) dheas level may mean nothing at all. I don't know why the level would have been drawn in the first place. It can be significantly (not slightly) elevated in a variety of ovarian or adrenal problems, including pcos. It is also stimulated by certain medications. As a solitary finding without other clinical information, however, it has no value. Talk w/the doctor who ordered it, . ...Read more

Not that high: A dhea-s of 599 (correct -comes from the adrenals) is somewhat increased but will usually not cause problems. It would help to know the reason why it was done. If periods are irregular other tests were probably run and if normal would be reassuring.
