Muscle issue: Creatine Kinase is an enzyme in muscles and any issue affecting the muscles, including exercise, can raise CK levels. You need to address the cause of the elevation. You may consult this site and then discuss the matter with your doctor who ordered the test.

Creatine Kinase (Definition)

Creatine kinase is an enzyme found in muscles throughout the body. There are different subtypes of the enzyme, called isoforms, which predominate in different organs. For instance, the isoform in skeletal muscles is different from that which is most heavily found in the heart muscle. A blood tests detects levels of this in the body, for example if ...Read more

I did blood test and creatine kinase was very high, I think more than 1000. I am going to the gym 4,5 days a week. Should I drink more water or?

Normal: Strenuous muscular exercise elevates the CK — this is NOT abnormal. Drinking water is certainly a healthy thing to do when you're sweating, but it will not have any effect on your CK. Don't worry about it. (A CK of 10,000 would be significant) ...Read more

What does the creatine kinase blood test looking for?

What does the creatine kinase blood test looking for?

Muscle injury: Creatine kinase is present in all types of muscles: skeletal, heart and smooth muscles. Any injury to the muscles will raise the level of this enzyme. Some drugs, e.g., statin can also increase the level. The level cannot be too low. ...Read more

Blood test results for (creatine kinase) ck : 351 and ck — mb : 102. Can you explain?

Big picture: Elite athletes have higher percentage of ck-mb. The burning question is "do you have heart disease?" this is better settled with a troponin series and an electrocardiogram if the history is suggestive. ...Read more

What will a creatine kinase (ck) blood test show? Will it show heart failure or such?

What will a creatine kinase (ck) blood test show? Will it show heart failure or such?

Muscle damage: Ck is elevated in cases of damage to muscles, it included skeletal muscle, heart muscle and smooth muscle. There are different types of ck and pathologists can distinguish which muscle group may be affected. Ck is usually not affected in uncomplicated heart failure. ...Read more

How long would creatine kinase (ck) levels in blood be elevated after exercise?

How long would creatine kinase (ck) levels in blood be elevated after exercise?

Up to four days: Strenuous exercise frequently triggers a rise in ck that peaks 16 to 24 hours following a workout, then stays elevated for 72 hours before falling back to. ...Read more

Can you donate blood if you have a metabolic myopathy and elevated creatine kinase?

Can you donate blood if you have a metabolic myopathy and elevated creatine kinase?

If you are otherwise: Fit. An elevated creatine kinase, per se, is not contraindication to blood donation. However, there are a number of other screening issues that need to be satisfied before you may donate blood.
I applaud your devotion to civic duty.

How to reduce creatine kinase in the blood?

How to reduce creatine kinase in the blood?

Depends on cause: Creatinine kinase is released from injured muscle of all kinds, skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscles, under varying circumstances. The issue would be to determine the cause of the elevation and treat the underlying pathology. ...Read more

My husband has been diagnosed with having too much creatine kinase in his blood. What should we do?

My husband has been diagnosed with having too much creatine kinase in his blood. What should we do?

Keep pumping iron: The reference range for creatine kinase is set based on the assumption that you do not exercise. In my series of medical students, all the men and the majority of the women who lead even moderately fitness-focused lifestyles have high creatine kinase -- often very high. If you're healthy, be proud of yourself and keep doing what you're doing. ...Read more

My husband has been diagnosed with having too much creatine kinase in his blood, what does this mean please?

Muscle breakdown: It usually means that there was or is ongoing muscle breakdown of some sort. Ther are many causes of this, but a heart attack, rhabdomyalisis, exercise, blunt force trauma, etc can cause local or systemic breakdown. The lab doesn't say where or what kind. ...Read more

My white blood count is 12.0, and my creatine kinase is 465, and my thyroid is 0.49. What does this mean?

My white blood count is 12.0, and my creatine kinase is 465, and my thyroid is 0.49. What does this mean?

Not enough info: Your WBC is a little high. It could be many things; knowing the TYPE of WBC predominating the increase would help. Your CK is high, but there are different forms of the CK enzyme; without knowing which isozyme the elevation is due to hampers our ability to interpret it for you. And "thyroid" isn't 0.49 (makes no sense), but TSH or free T4 could be. We can't help by doing a lot of guessing. ...Read more

Blood work shows bilirubin at 1.9mg/dl (direct 0.4mg/dl) creatine kinase of 421 u/l. Urinalysis shows micr hematuria 5-10 rbc/hpf. What could it be?

Need more info.,,: It would be best to get more tests/info. Before deciding exactly what this is. It looks like there is a red cell destruction process going on from the bilirubin breakdown, but the hematuria and ck result could mean kidney and/or muscle injury. So it'd be wise to see your doctor soon to get more tests if you haven't had them to be sure. Best of luck. ...Read more

How to treat high level of creatine kinase due to nerves?

Here's accurate info: Somebody's kidding you or there is a misunderstanding. Creatine kinase is an enzyme found in the blood; the reference range was determined for couch potatoes, and in my series' of athletic medical students, a majority of healthy young people have "elevated levels" just from exercising. It's also high in a few illnesses your physician knows about, but not from "nerves". ...Read more
