Does bronchiolitis cause low oxygen saturation?

Does bronchiolitis cause low oxygen saturation?

It happends: Bronchiolitis causes a build up of secretions in the tiny airways and blocks transfer of oxygen into the tissues. It can and does cause a drop in blood oxygen in many cases. ...Read more

Oxygen (Definition)

Oxygen is a gas that the cells in your body need to work properly. The air we breathe normally has 21% oxygen. A maximum of 100% oxygen can be given. Babies with heart or lung problems may need ...Read more

Can sleep apnea cause low oxygen level?

Can sleep apnea cause low oxygen level?

Yes,: Both obstructive and central sleep apnea can lead to a decreased gas exchange in the lung through either decreased airflow or disturbed ventilation during the sleep and subsequently result in low oxygen level in blood. ...Read more

How much does a low oxygen saturation level affect judgment?

How much does a low oxygen saturation level affect judgment?

Oxygen: A low oxygen saturation definitely affects judgment. Your brain is one of the organs that is heavily dependent on proper oxygenation. If you decrease the oxygen saturation, judgment may be impaired. ...Read more

How much can a low venous oxygen saturation affect judgement?

How much can a low venous oxygen saturation affect judgement?

Depends: Low oxygen levels can affect someone's judgment and arousal. But, this is variable between people. I have met plenty of people with very low oxygen levels and can act and feel fine. So, there is no general rule about that... ...Read more

Can shallow breathing (anxiety?) reduce oxygen saturation?

Can shallow breathing (anxiety?) reduce oxygen saturation?

Shallow breathing: Will lower oxygen level. We often rib cage breathe when anxious. Please learn some belly breathing and you will increase your oxygen level. Peace and good health. ...Read more

Copd ---- what's considered a high concentration of required oxygen?

Copd ---- what's considered a high concentration of required oxygen?

Delivery: Perspective is that 21% is the concentration from the air we breath. 2-3% increase in concentration is from each liter of oxygen added. So 1 liter is about 24% and this can go through a nasal canula tube. Over 4-5 liters, you cannot get this from a canula and need continuous flow to maintain the concentration. This would be considered "high" in my book. Not sure if this answers your question. ...Read more

Why would patients with COPD be given low flow concentration (1-2l/min) supplemental oxygen?

Low blood oxygen: At the advanced stages of copd, the lungs do not perform their function well, oxygen has a harder time crossing into the blood stream. At this point, the body is not getting enough energy, the blood oxygen level is low. Raising the amount of inhaled oxygen offsets the problem, and prolongs life. Oxygen is used at the lowest amount that would achieve the goal. ...Read more

Is an oxygen saturation of 69% when sleeping dangerously low?

Yes: 69% saturation is quite low. Does the patient stop breathing at night (sleep apnea)? Do they have copd? Asthma or other lung disease? These questions need to be answered. The primary care physician should be consulted and a sleep study ordered. ...Read more

Can anxiety attacks cause oxygen saturation to drop?

Can anxiety attacks cause oxygen saturation to drop?

Potentially: If you have COPD or severe asthma and your ability to get enough air is already compromised, then yes, panic attacks can cause oxygen saturation to drop by hyperventilation and shallow breathing, but generally not meaningfully if otherwise in good health. ...Read more

Why should patients with COPD be given low flow concentration supplemental oxygen?

Why should patients with COPD be given low flow concentration supplemental oxygen?

Helps: if a patient has a saturation less than 88 they qualify for supplemental oxygen. oxygen is the only therapy proven to prolong life in advanced copd ...Read more

Could low oxygen (decreased lung expansion) decreases cardiac output?

Could low oxygen (decreased lung expansion) decreases cardiac output?

How would oxygen deprivation change arterial blood gas levels?

How would oxygen deprivation change arterial blood gas levels?

Breath rate increase: O2 deprivation will typically cause people to breath faster. Abg measures levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide and blood ph. Faster breathing causes a drop in co2 which then causes the blood to have an increase in ph (towards basic, not acidic). Over time, the body would compensate for this ph change via acid retention by the kidney and although the co2 would remain low, the ph would approach normal. ...Read more

Checking oxygen saturation for person with carbon monoxide inhalation, any suggestions?

Checking oxygen saturation for person with carbon monoxide inhalation, any suggestions?

Use ABG: The problem with co monoxide poisoning is that the co binds tightly to the hemoglobin and if you use saturation, yes that ligand is occupied and will be saturated so saturation is up in the spectrophotometry method. The actual method which is the blood gas will show how much o2 is bound to the hemoglobin. ...Read more

What fixes low oxygen level at night?

What fixes low oxygen level at night?

Depends on cause...: Most often, this is related to obstructive sleep apnea. This is when your airway becomes "floppy" while sleeping. The airway closes and no air can pass into the lungs. Therefore, the oxygen level drops. Using oxygen at night won't fix the problem if this is related to sleep apnea. You will need a special machine that increases the pressure in your airway while sleeping. See a sleep doctor. ...Read more

Can high o2 affinity hemoglobin cause arterial blood gas values of high o2?

Can high o2 affinity hemoglobin cause arterial blood gas values of high o2?

Less O2 delivery: High o2 affinity HGB (leftward shift in o2 saturation curve) means it requires a higher partial pressure of o2 to achieve the same o2 saturation. The HGB is more tightly bound to o2 and less is delivered to the tissues. More o2 will be necessary to adequately deliver oxygen to the tissues. ...Read more

At what level is low blood oxygen harmful for children with copd?

At what level is low blood oxygen harmful for children with copd?

See below: Children usually don't have copd, this is a disease of the adult. Children may have congenital lung diseases but the physiology of those is not the same as copd. Blood oxygen levels less than 90% are generally not desired. Hope this helps. ...Read more
