Is chronic constipation (daily miralax, (polyethylene glycol) frequent senna, glyc. Supp's aren't enough. Enemas needed often) in
toddlers considered a Motility issue?

Stool retention: This is more an accident than a motility issue. When/if the kid decides one day not to poop, and the next day has a hard painful stool, they may try to stop having them. Over time stool retention causes physical changes in the large bowel causing poor emptying. Parents try short treatments that fail & the problem continues. This often requires a developmental ped or pedi GI working for a year . ...Read more

Oh my...: Before you contemplate long term laxative use, seek medical evaluation--rule out metabolic causes of constipation (e.g. Low thyroid or adrenal conditions), distinguish slow versus normal transit constipation, consider a primary rectal dysfunction that may be treatable with biofeedback, check for structural pathology or extrinsic impingement, or intermittent ileus (e.g. Pseudo-obstruction). ...Read more

Constipation. Laxatives, fiber, water, diet changes, even castor oil haven't worked. Colonoscopy 3 years ago showed no bowel obstruction. Help?

Schedule changes: May try getting up 15 minutes earlier, exercising, and then having a warm breakfast and then time to go to the bathroom for bowel function. Sorry you have had so much trouble, but this can be treated. ...Read more

How is a mineral oil enema different from a fleet enema (sodium bisphosphate)?

Simple!: Enemas are used to help cleanse the rectum and left colon. Mineral oil enemas are simply that - mineral oil in water.
