I have a high bun/ creatinine level (28) and a low creatinine level (0.5) . Should I be concerned or do something?

BUN/Creat Ratio: I personally would not worry about it since the high ratio is due to a slightly elevated BUN. This might be due to a diet high in non-essential amino acids (nothing to truly be concerned about) or a mild lack of water intake. If you are still concerned, please see your primary doctor and go over all of that with her/him. ...Read more

What's the meaning of high bun/creatinine ratio?

See below: An elevated BUN with normal creatinine and a ratio of [generally more than 18-20] occurs most commonly in dehydrated individuals and is not a sign of kidney damage. It may also occur in in certain other conditions like bleeding in the intestines, artificial nutrition intravenously of Amino Acids and use of steroids. ...Read more

What does a high bun/creatinine and high glucose mean?

What does a high bun/creatinine and high glucose mean?

Co-tango usually: The BUN is usually 10 times the creatinine. When the creatinine goes up, the BUN goes up similarly to roughly keep this proportion, in most kidney disease states. The notable exception is when the creatinine goes up say by 20% to 1.2, but the BUN goes up *5 to 50. This strongly suggests a pre-renal state, commonly dehydration. Mild elevations of BUN with normal creatinines aren't of concern. ...Read more

What is the cause of high bun creatinine ratio in children?

BUN/Cr Ratio: The most common cause of a high blood urea nitrogen (BUN) to creatinine ratio is dehydration. A ratio over 20 indicates low intravascular volume. The BUN can also be elevated in people with a high muscle mass. ...Read more

What does it mean low creatinine levels and high bun creatinine ratio?

Muscle mass: Serum levels of creatinine depend on renal function, muscle mass and intake of muscles foods. A low creatinine level is of no consequence as long as you are not emaciated. Paralyzed, or have extensive amputations. High ratio just reflects low creatinine. ...Read more

During a metabolic workup, what does a high bun/creatinine ratio reading mean?

Decrease in flow.: Bun=blood urea nitrogen, byproduct of proteins ingested, if rise to high levels due to kidney problem, can cause toxic affects on the body. Creatinine= measurement of renal function. Normal bun/cr ratio about 10. The higher that ratio, the more likely it is not intrinsic kidney disease per se, but reduction in blood flow or volume to kidney, like when on strong diuretic-prerenal-reversible. ...Read more

Does high bun creatinine mean kidney cancer? My 10 year old son has it

Does high bun creatinine mean kidney cancer? My 10 year old son has it

Usually not: There are many other more common reasons for a child to have a higher than normal bun/creatinine other than kidney cancer. Some of these include: dehydration, medications, infections, and urinary tract abnormalities. It is important to find out the cause of the impaired kidney function so that it can be treated. ...Read more

What amylase level is too high for female? What can be problems if also high BUN/Creatinine ratio, high anion gap, and high direct bilirubin?

What amylase level is too high for female? What can be problems if also high BUN/Creatinine ratio, high anion gap, and high direct bilirubin?

Why do you ask?: Amylase kay be very high without being a problem because of a harmless variant called macroamylasemia. The ratio is useful only to explain other abnormals is obvious disease. Same is basically true if the gap. If you feel well, slightly high direct bilirubin may be meds or a minir metabolic glitch. Your physician is your best guide. ...Read more

I'm not sure what's: Causing ur son's condition but my best guess is there's some form of bone marrow and immune deficiency causing his symptoms. I presume he has been worked up by a hematologist.
