Waxes and wanes: It can get worse but it can also get better. There are periods of remission and relapse. Most people don't need surgery. Intense medical management and dietary practices usually suffice. Put the head of your bed on a block. Don't eat or drink for 2 hrs before bed. Take an acid blocking medicine twice a day for several weeks. Avoid nicotine and alcohol. Get follow up with a gastroenterologist. Read more

PUlmonary embolism: You had an operation on your stomach. It was operated on and taken down. If you are short of breath and obese a pulmonary embolism should be considered. You may have had a dvt. Possibly: Could be a hiatal hernia, but could also be normal. As your stomach fills up, there is less room for your lungs to push down to inflate, so your feeling like stomach pushing on lungs is correct. Easiest way to fix is not eat large meals. Maybe more frequent, smaller meals. Read more

If you see a hernia bulge on the outside it could be an umbilical or ingunai (groin) hernia, or hernia in a scar from past surgery. Shortness of breath: Shortness of breath can be caused by lots of things, from asthma to anxiety. Histal hernia generally won't cause it. Nor will mitral valve prolapse. However the anxiety that sometimes goes along with the mitral valve prolapse diagnosis could. Have you had allergies or asthma? Do you only get short of breath under stress or with exercise?
