Can a recently infected HSV-2 person have encephalitis?, she only had IgM Ab's yet. Or this occur only in long time infections?
Had HSV DNA PCR test with CSF? Negative. Also had HSV 1/2 antibody (IgM), IFA with reflex to Titer, CSF. Negative. Can I still have HSV 1 or 2?
No HSV in CNS: With these tests, you're obviously under a doctor's care, maybe including an infectious diseases specialist or neurologist. They can answer these questions best. But these results effectively rule out HSV infection of your central nervous system. Something else is causing the problem. That said, the HSV IgM test is notoriously unreliable. You probably also had an IgG test, probably negative. ...Read more
How long could the IgG in Lyme disease stay positive?Could it stay positive more than 5-10 years? I know the IgM ab convert to IgG just want an answer
Yes,positive 20+ yrs: Research suggests igg antibodies can persist at least 20 years after infection. While igm antibodies appear first, unlike other infections they often persist ; are a good indicator of persistent infection. One may have chronic lyme with or without persistence of igg antibodies. Chronic lyme is difficult to fully eradicate ; no current test proves that it is no longer present in your body! ...Read more
Whats the meaning of Herpes Type 1 IgG- Serum Positive, Herpes Type 2 IgG - Serum Negative and Herpes 1+2 IgM Ab Serum Negative? Thats my results
HSV1, no HSV2: The results mean you are carrying herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1), usually from oral infection in childhood, so you probably have had it for years. But if you have had symptoms that suggest genital herpes, it could be a genital infection. You do not have HSV2, the usual cause of genital herpes. I takes up to 12 weeks for positive results, so these results do not exclude recent infection. ...Read more

Negative: If a patient's lab test result is <0.91, and the lab says the reference range for NEGATIVE is <0.91, then the test result is NEGATIVE. Of course, numbers are just numbers, so the doctor needs to see the numbers in the context of the whole patient in order to make sensible and accurate conclusions from the numbers. ...Read more

My Lyme igg/igm ab test came back at .98. The test range is 0-.90. My doctor says this is negative, although it says high on the test. Is she right?
Merits further tests: With an uncertain test result, a western blot test is appropriate, one that tests for antibodies to several lyme spiroochete body parts, both for igm and igg. Igenex labs in palo alto ca has a very precise western blot test and you can get a blood draw kit with instructions for free (at least your doc can order it) also suggest a cd57 natural killer cell test available through labcorp (only). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
