How long does the herpes zoster virus survive outside the body? Ie. after the fluid breaks out from the blister?

How long does the herpes zoster virus survive outside the body? Ie. after the fluid breaks out from the blister?

Virus dies quickly: If things are 'dry', then the virus will die off. However if the blister pops & wet material comes out -then potentially a new person could become infected with the chickenpox virus. Chickenpox has to occur first, before zoster can occur. If that person who was exposed had the chickenpox vaccine, then u can breathe a sigh of relief because they should be protected. No transmission if DRY scabs. ...Read more

When is it secure for someone with herpes zoster be in contact with others?

When is it secure for someone with herpes zoster be in contact with others?

Some contacts are ok: Herpes zoster is the chicken pox virus, so a person with zoster can touch any normal person (not immunocompromised, not on prednisone, not a baby) who has immunity to the virus from a past vaccination or a past case of chicken pox or zoster. Otherwise, the zoster patient can wait until all his rash is fully healed (although he is probably not contagious once his scabs are all dry and healing). ...Read more

Hi, I'm 33 and I've been diagnosed with herpes zoster. I had unprotected passive sex 3 weeks ago with a man who might have syphilis. Are the 2 related?

No: Herpes zoster (shingles) is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox. After you've had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue near your spinal cord and brain. Years later, the virus may reactivate as shingles. Syphilis is a bacterial infection usually spread by sexual contact. Shingles is a viral infection, syphilis is a bacterial infection. ...Read more

I had very mild herpes zoster just 8 blisters and I am cured now my pregnancy test is positive now after 5 days of medicine. Can it affect the fetus?

Zoster: It should not affect the fetus. It is a reactivation of the virus that you have had since chicken pox (or the vaccine) in your youth. With shingles (zoster), the virus does not travel through the blood stream - it travels locally down a nerve and to the skin. If anything it will boost your immunity to shingles/chicken pox during pregnancy. ...Read more

Im9 weeks pregnant had herpes before conception should I go through any tests? Does herpes affect the child had herpes zoster just 6 to 8 blisters

Confusing question: Herpes zoster is a reactivation of chickenpox on superficial skin and provides no direct risk to the fetus. If you never had genital herpes (herpes simplex), your baby is not at risk. Discuss this with your ob. Even moms who have had prior genital herpes can have healthy babies if your OB is aware of it and plans accordingly. ...Read more
