My test is positive for herpes 1 and negative for herpes 2 (all igg) but also positive IgM herpes too. Would you say I have type 1 or 2 ?

Both 1 and 2: Sounds like you have an acute infection with herpes 2. Igm indicated acute infection. The igg will become positive with time. A positive igg for herpes 1 indicates prior exposure to herpes 1. ...Read more

Oral sex with unknown, continuous 5month low grade fever, lymph nodes, sore throat, 107 da HIV eia negative HIV PCR RNA not detected, what other std?

NOT STD: As you have been told this is not an STD. But, it could be an infectious disease. That list is hundreds of possibilities long and will include testing for lymphoma, leukemia, other blood cell cancers, and all of the possible non-STD infectious diseases. It is time to sign off of the internet and to see your doctor for the appropriate testing or infectious disease consultation. ...Read more

Reading Herpes Tests: I would caution you against these assumptions. These tests should be read and positive (one has been exposed and infected) or negative (one does not have evidence of exposure and infection). Trying to guess when one was exposed will never be correct from these numbers. ...Read more

I'm hebs ag negative with a high anti hbs antibody from vaccination. This week's test was reported as hebs ag detected with anti hbs antibody of 513 miu/ml. Lft normal....Scared....Lab error?

Yes: That sounds like lab error. Your hbsab would provide immunity; i'm assuming yoru hbcab (core) is negative; i wouldn't worry, talk to your doctor about a retest if you are concerned, but even if you were infected, there is no reason for treatment at this time. ...Read more

I'm a hept b carrier.
Recent blood test shows hbe ag reactive.
What does it mean?

You are infecitous: Having the "e" antigen on board in your blood is a marker that your blood is especially dangerous to others. This is true of some other body fluids as well. Make your decisions accordingly, be responsible, take medicines if your physician suggests it, and perhaps someday we will have a way to cure this. ...Read more

HC worker. 1992 Hep B vac, 2004 titer & booster. 2012 labs hep B neg. Labs done last wk; now told that Hep B test is positive?? How can this be?

The vaccine worked: Lab tests aren't perfect and sometimes can be wrong. Or maybe the negative result was from the wrong kind of test. Vaccination makes hepatitis B surface antibody (HBsAb) positive. Tests for surface antigen (HBsAg) or core antibody (HBcAb) remain negative. Most important, you can be sure you are immune and protected by the vaccine -- so no worries. ...Read more

05/05/2016 Siemens Advia Centaur hep C antibody result positive.08/10/2016 Abbott Architect (cmia) hep C antibody result negative.Who is telling truth?

It's not really: a question of truth telling. No test is perfect: the proteins and reactants used in each test will respond to an individual's blood/biologic material, potentially, in a different way. Falsely positive or falsely negative results are not very unusual. You need to decide on a confirmatory strategy with your doctor. Retesting is necessary and an expert can help you weigh the evidence to decide result ...Read more

Does genital herpes lay dormant for years before initial outbreak?

Herpes: Recurrent herpetic outbreaks are usually shorter in duration (averaging 7 days), with less severe symptoms and are often preceded by a prodrome of itching or burning in the affected area. Systemic symptoms are usually absent. Most people diagnosed with a first episode of genital herpes can expect to have several (typically four or five) outbreaks (symptomatic recurrences) within a year. ...Read more

Please help! what happens if you are tested positive for herpes simplex 1.. Will you ever get outbreaks in your genitals?

Please help! what happens if you are tested positive for herpes simplex 1.. Will you ever get outbreaks in your genitals?

Possibly: It's possible to get an outbreak of hsv-1 on your genital region if you contracted hsv-1 at the genital region. For instance, if someone with an oral hsv-1 lesion (cold sore) performed oral sex on your genitalia, they could potentially pass the hsv-1 to your genitals, making you susceptible for outbreaks of hsv-1 in your genital region. ...Read more

Could you give some one herpes simplex 1 if you don't have a cold sore/fever blister?

Maybe: The herpes family of viruses are very common. Some people will get outbreaks, others who are exposed may never have an outbreak, and only with a blood test will find out they were ever exposed. For those who have outbreaks, they can release the virus before a sore is present, either oral or genital sores. ...Read more

No. No. Yes.: Herpes 1 cannot turn into 2, nor vice versa. A person is not immune to herpes 1 unless he has caught herpes 1, and likewise, he is not immune to herpes 2 unless he has caught herpes 2. That means having herpes 1 does not protect you against herpes 2, and vice versa. That also means having herpes 1 on one part of the body should prevent you from getting new herpes 1 on a different part of the body. ...Read more

Treating Herpes: Yes. Of course. But, if she has herpes someone had to have given this to her. I would have the family all tested and then teach them about viral shedding and the necessity of putting them on a treatment to reduce their contagiousness. There is zovirax (acyclovir) for topical application, but oral meds work much better for suppression of this infection. ...Read more
