Herpes Outbreak After Sex
There are different types of herpes infections; herpes simplex infection of mouth (gingivostomatitis) and lips (labialis) are the most common. Others include genital herpes, and herpes zoster. Herpes infection could very mild to very dangerous depending on the type and location of the body affected. I ...Read more
Hopefully nothing: Leakage around the condom or rupture of the condom may well result in the person who is not infected becoming so. During acute outbreaks the lesions are often uncomfortable enough to preclude much sexual activity, but if not, condoms will generally minimize the risk. Nonetheless it would be preferable to wait until these lesions have healed over. ...Read more
If you only have a herpes outbreak in your anus but never noticed a vaginal outbreak, can you still spread herpes through vaginal sex or just anal?
HSV-2: Herpes simplex virus-2 (hsv-2) is a virus that can be spread sexually, vaginal or anal sex, or even oral sex. Having the lesion with an outbreak, wold certainly increase the chances, but does not preclude a person contracting the disease if having sex other places than the outbreak. ...Read more
Not designed for it: It's actually not safe, because one's anus is not designed for repeated in/out, in/out. Just like in any big city, some streets are one-way and some streets are two-way. A vagina is created or evolved to be a two-way street (penis in, baby out). However, the gastrointestinal tract is designed to be one-way, with an opening on each end. Food goes in the mouth, and the brown stuff goes out the butt. ...Read more
How long should I wait after a herpes outbreak to have sex with my boyfriend? I took 1000mg Valtrex (valacyclovir) twice/day during outbreak and 500mg thereafter.
Misinformed?: If using protection that covers the infected area you don't have to wait. But the more important thing here is that having sores does not in any way correlate to contagiousness. Everything about herpes changed five years ago when we learned that herpes viral shedding is not predictable and has no correlation to outbreaks. You are just as contagious without a sore as you may be with a sore. ...Read more

First genital herpes outbreak. If I have been having sex with the same partner exclusively for over a year, how can I have contracted this only now?
There is no correlation between infection and visible outbreaks. 90% of people infected with herpes type two, do not have sores or outbreaks. And the others can have no trigger to explain their outbreak.
The mystery here that is not included in your question is is the genital herpes actually a new infection with herpes type one and not type two? Did you know your herpes blood test status? ...Read more

Rx and OTC: You may have to take a prescription antiviral medication if you experience regular outbreaks. While we aren't exactly sure why outbreaks can be more frequent, we think that avoiding certain triggers like excessive alcohol, fatigue, sun exposure, and stress might help. Two otc supplements that might help lower outbreaks (but not transmission) are l-lysine and lauricidin. ...Read more
What do you mean?: The herpes sores should not bleed themselves (but could if you pick at them once they have crusted over). Outbreaks tend to occur when your body is stressed or sick. If you frequently have outbreaks during your cycle you may be a candidate for supression therapy and should talk to your md. ...Read more
