Wrong test: The IgM test isn't helpful. The igg test is far more useful. ...Read more
There are different types of herpes infections; herpes simplex infection of mouth (gingivostomatitis) and lips (labialis) are the most common. Others include genital herpes, and herpes zoster. Herpes infection could very mild to very dangerous depending on the type and location of the body affected. I ...Read more
My test is positive for herpes 1 and negative for herpes 2 (all igg) but also positive IgM herpes too. Would you say I have type 1 or 2?
I got <0.9 for IgG but 1.5+ for IgM for herpes test. What does that mean? Do I have herpes? Which type? What to do to be sure & what medication to take?
Likely: Igm is produced first in response to an antigen, so suggests you are recently infected (within weeks); as to which, test should reflect hsv1 ("oral") or hsv2 ("genital")--but hsv2 is the more commonly tested for type.. Your dr will prescribe antiviral best for your situation: Acyclovir (zovirax), valacyclovir (valtrex) or Famciclovir (famvir). ...Read more
Herpes: I disagree. First one does an IgG test to know their status. Then if you are negative and worried about a new exposure then you test after six weeks with an IgM test. Remember herpes is in most cases silent but still contagious. 90% of those infected shed virus at unpredictable rates that have no correlation to outbreaks. ...Read more
How long does it take for herpes IgM antibodies to disappear - for a person to test negative after exposure?
Herpes simplex: Positive test results for hsv-2 indicate genital herpes. If this was igm then in 6-8 weeks it should convert to igg antibodies, but this is immaterial. Either you have this or you don't and once you have it, it will remain with you for the rest of your life. We do not yet have a cure for herpes simplex viral infection. ...Read more
Does a negative IgM test for herpes mean I don't have herpes. I performed the test after 2 months of exposure both negative for IgM and igg.
See below: Actually, look at it a little differently. Forget herpes, which has no known association with cidp, but if an anti-gm-1 test is done and there is elevation of igg, not igm, this would alter the diagnosis to multifocal motor neuropathy (mmn), which is a similar disorder to cidp, but may be handled differently in some cases. ...Read more
Herpes IgM Immunoglobulin test result - 0.68 gm/l (reference range: 0.4 - 2.4 gm/l), is it positive or negative? Thank you :)
Look again: One should look at the results again. A herpes IgM reference value should be "less than a number" and look something like <1.0 or look like <1:1. The number depends on the lab. If the test result is less than the reference value, then the result means NEGATIVE or no recent infection suspected. The reference value should not be two numbers separated by a dash, so should not look like 0.4-2.4 gm/l. ...Read more
Do I infect other if I tested for herpes blood test IgG positive 158 and IgM negative 0.08? And what negative IgG means? Thank you
I had herpes blood test 1&2 IgG positive 158 IgM negative 0.08 they told me I don't have herpes are they correct? I'm so confused please help me
Yes: They are correct. Igm tells us if you have an acute or active infection. This was negative, so you do not. The igg tells us you have previously been exposed or infected. This was positive, so you have. ...Read more
Neg. Igm for herpes 1and 2. Positive IgG for herpes 1 and neg.2. I have blisters but culture came back neg. Who do I believe? What is a good test
No acute infection!:
negative igm and negative culture suggest that there is no acute infection. Positive igg shows that you have had past infection. Both tests agree in your case. There is another test polymerase chain reaction (pcr) which has been widely used recently. Tzanck smear shows the presence of herpes virus also. Rarely, more than one test is ordered by your physician - it could be expensive. ...Read more
When getting tested for herpes, igg/igm test, what numbers ensure a positive result, what numbers show exposure but not active infection? Hopeiaskright
Positive Result: An acute infection, would show a positive igm titer and either a negative or positive igg titer. Prior exposure would show a positive igg titer and negative igm titer. ...Read more
I had an exposure a year before, I took HSV 1 & 2 IGG and IGM AB test last week, Both came back with negative, am I free for Herpes?
What is the most accurate blood test for herpes I made one which cames out IgG +ve IgM -ve but it didn't distinguished if it is oral or gentel?
Ask doctor again: Igm antibodies tell us you have not just recently contracted herpes. Igg antibodies positive mean old herpes. Almost everybody in the country has cold sores because of grandmas kissing babies/etc. Oral is 2/3rds type I herpes & 1/3 type ii these days & vice versa for genital. This is only important to know for future reference because type ii is much more severe &.Frequent. Treatment is the same. ...Read more
Can IgM test be inaccurate & give false results especially when I tested negative for IgG herpes? What's the best test for hsv? Help please please
HSV: Hsv is often a clinical diagnosis. Igm is the antibody produced earliest in a viral infection so if this was positive, then it means an acute infection. Igg is produced later in the infection and/or after infection has cleared. Igg will probably turn positive at a later time, but treating the hsv with an oral anti-viral is most important, not the igm/igg results. ...Read more
Herpes antibody test 2.05 IgM for HSV-2 and 0.05 IgG for HSV-2, do I have the viris or not? My Dr. Said that he thinks not, I don't know what to think
IgM versus IgG: You very well may have an early infection with herpes. You cannot know for certain without a follow up test. I would wait six weeks and then repeat the tests. If the IgG is still negative then, you do not have the infection. Sometimes the IgM testing picks up HSV1 and cannot distinguish it. ...Read more
