Healing herpes: Sometimes redness from skin inflammation or infection can take several weeks to months to resolve. Unfortunately there is no good way of shortening that time. ...Read more

jock itch for a year but I tested negative for HIV and all other STD but haven't tested for herpes just itchy groin thighs and but tucks (witch hazel).

jock itch for a year but I tested negative for HIV and all other STD but haven't tested for herpes just itchy groin thighs and but tucks (witch hazel).

Fungal infection: By far the most common cause of this is an annoying but harmless fungal infection of the skin. Fungi like to live where it's warm and moist. Simple measures to correct this are changing underwear twice a day (since undies absorb sweat), drying thoroughly after washing, using baby powder, and over-the-counter anti-fungal agents (like those used for athlete's foot). If that fails, see dermatologist. ...Read more

Ex partner had herpes. I'm experiencing swollen l-nodes in groin, itch & tingle (all mild) but many Drs won't test unless visible lesions. What to do?

Ex partner had herpes. I'm experiencing swollen l-nodes in groin, itch & tingle (all mild) but many Drs won't test unless visible lesions. What to do?

Symptoms not herpes: Herpes sores often itch, tingle, or cause inflamed lymph nodes, but by themselves, these don't suggest herpes. That said, Public Health Canada has a head-in-sand attitude about HSV blood tests, which therefore aren't done frequently. G.herpes with lumbar pain and right groin pain with limping. Could these symptoms all be related?

G.herpes with lumbar pain and right groin pain with limping. Could these symptoms all be related?

Yes: As with most viral infections you usually have 'global' symptoms (aches, pains, fever, etc). So it is very common with an outbreak of genital herpes to have lumbar and groin pain, tender lymph nodes, fatigue, etc. The viral symptoms last a few day but the rash itself may last longer. ...Read more

If my groin lymph nodes are still swollen does that mean my herpes is still shedding/ contagious. My sores have been gone for over 2 weeks.

Probably no: If you have no lesions, you probably are not shedding. However, because you have a history of the virus you may never know for sure that there is no viral shedding. As a result, you must always practice safe sex ...Read more

Brief sex 4 days ago. Today saw one painless large olive sized lymph node on left groin. No other symptoms or sores noticed. Is this herpes? Or what?

Brief sex 4 days ago. Today saw one painless large olive sized lymph node on left groin. No other symptoms or sores noticed. Is this herpes? Or what?

Not herpes: Almost certainly not herpes. There is no STD or other infection likely to cause lymph node enlargement in 4 days, especially without other symptoms like sores or irritation. The new lump in your groin -- whether really a lymph node or something else -- probably has nothing to do with the sexual event 4 days earlier. See a doctor if it persists, if any other symptoms, or you remain concerned. ...Read more
