You're OK: Oral sex is safe sex for HIV, with no proved transmissions by fellatio from mouth to penis, only rare ones penis to oral. You didn't need testing on account of this event and for sure not the multiple expensive ones you had. But the results from that combination of tests are conclusive. For sure you didn't catch HIV during that exposure and no further testing is needed. Best wishes and stay safe! ...Read more

Polymerase Chain Reaction (Definition)

Polymerase chain reaction is a method of finding a specific piece of dna and copying it over and over again until there is enough to study. The technique allows a scientist to detect very small amounts of dna in a swab sample then reproduce enough of it to study it. It is very sensisitive for detecting the presence of certain bacteria and is also used in doing other ...Read more

Why is the HIV DNA PCR test not recommended after 4 weeks of exposure? Would it still be a good measure if used past a 3 month time frame?

Why is the HIV DNA PCR test not recommended after 4 weeks of exposure? Would it still be a good measure if used past a 3 month time frame?

HIV RNA PCR: It is completely diagnostic at four weeks. Who told you otherwise? But it must be combined with one of the newer generation antibody tests in case you happen to have a natural ability to suppress the viral replication. ...Read more

Is there any case/possibility where HIV ANTIBODIES DOESN'T develop at all for life time? I am negative after 11 months. Will PCR DNA detect HIV aft 1yr

Yes, if you have HIV: It is very very unlikely that you have HIV if the antibody test is negative 11 months after exposure. You could get HIV nucleic acid test for your peace of mind, if that is negative, you do not have HIV. ...Read more

Does DNA PCR test for HIV 1&2 lose sensitivity over time? How accurate can a negative result for DNA PCR be on checking at 89 days post exposure?

Does DNA PCR test for HIV 1&2 lose sensitivity over time? How accurate can a negative result for DNA PCR be on checking at 89 days post exposure?

No sensitivity loss: These tests do not lose sensitivty over time. A negative result at almost 3 months is almost 100% conclusive. However, to reach 100% certainty, you also need an antibody test, if not already done. ...Read more

Hi. Just wanted to know how accurate is a HIV DNA PCR test at 6 and 21 days after exposure. Both tests came back as not detected.?

Negative: The overwhelming probability is that you are negative. This is a very accurate test and rapidly becomes positive in infected individuals. The test actually measures rna. This virus is call a retrovirus because in the cell it is converted to dna and then intercalated into the cell genome. ...Read more

How accurate is the hiv-dna by pcr?

How accurate is the hiv-dna by pcr?

Nucleic acid Test : Hiv is a RNA virus. Nucleic acid testing (nat) is done to (1) detect virus for an early diagnosis after potential exposure; (2) donated blood to detect infection, (3) to measure the viral load in someone undergoing treatment for hiv. Nat may be negative up to two weeks or so after acquiring infection. It is the most accurate of the tests for hiv. ...Read more
