Unlikely: A disc herniation could cause sudden neck pain & pain may cause nausea & vomiting but not eye pain. A headache up back of head could be from the cervical muscles being stimulated to involuntary contract leading to muscular or tension like headache . I would also be concerned about vascular issue of one of blood vessels leading into the brain such as the carotid or vertebral arteries so see doctor. ...Read more

Neck or shoulder: You can get similar symptoms from an impingement on either your neck or shoulder itself. Best thing to do is see a physiatrist and get examined as there are special tests that can be done to determine which it is. If the exam doesn't lead to answers and MRI would be the next step. Muscle tension: If you wish to avoid taking muscle relaxants like flexeril or robaxin, (methocarbamol) consider stress management therapy. Wearing a soft cervical collar off and on takes pressure of the neck. For sciatic pain which is chronic, epidural corticosteroid injections and/or surgery may be needed and follow up with a neurosurgeon is advisable. ...Read more
