Herniated Belly Button (Overview)

Umbilicus herniation is where a small segment of intestine protrudes through a weakness in the tissue just behind the belly button. The intestine doesn't actually protrude through the skin, but there may be a soft lump (containing intestine) behind the skin of the belly button.

Smelly Belly Button: Smelly belly button can be due to growth of bacteria and fungus as it does not get enough air and stays moist and swetty, it happens more often to people who are obese and lot of fat in the belly area, but can happen to others as well. Benefits fetus: It helps a fetus to have loose belly muscles.Otherwise the blood passing into the belly button from the placenta would have a hard time at that tight area.After birth, the strap muscles of the belly remain loose until baby begins to sit up, pull up & otherwise tighten them.At that point, most pooched out bb's go back in.If still out after walking a year, i'll have them evaluated for surgery. ...Read more
