Hernia Support Underwear
How long do you have to wear the support underwear after hernia surgery? And is it ok I take it off for a day?
Unique question: This is not a normal situation for those of us who work in american medicine. Most hernia surgeries are done laparoscopically and there is little to no post operative pain or problems. I would bet, however, that your surgeon gave you post op instructions that should answer your question. If they did not this is a question to direct to your surgeon. ...Read more
For scortum support after inguinal hernia surg 5 mths ago I wear underwear 24 hrs a day. Are there any -ve consequences of doing so?
Good, keep going:
What you did is actually good, we encouraged our patient to wear a support to lift the testicle and minimize pain and swelling.
so whay you are doing is good, and healthy.
if you decided now five months later to start wearing regulat boxes short that does not give a scrotal support is ok too,
I hope that answer your question, and concern. ...Read more

In most cases: Physical exam by a surgeon is all you need for accurate diagnosis of an inguinal hernia. In some cases, an ultrasound can provide more information. Panty girdle is probably not adequate support. Specially designed hernia truss is sometimes helpful, but surgery is best solution. Consult a surgeon for specific recommendation in your case. ...Read more
Surgical repair: This depends on your definition of "best". If the hernia is bothersome, limiting your activities, or enlarging, usually the best thing to do is repair it with an operation. Mesh repair is often used, and has slightly lower failure rates, with theoretically slightly increased risk of problems with the mesh. There are mesh products referred to as "ventral patches", and used by general surgeons. ...Read more

No: A hernia is a defect in the abdominal wall musculature (technically in the tough tissue overlying muscle). Some people are prone to developing hernias even after having repairs. Need a Game Plan: Seromas are very common after hernia surgery; almost all resolve w/in a few months after surgery. Rx depends on its size, how long it has been present, symptoms, method of hernia repair, location of mesh etc. Ask your surgeon what his/her "game plan" is. If you are not satisfied w/the answer, you may want to get a 2nd opinion from another hernia surgeon. Good luck. ...Read more
