If my hernia repair (with mesh) isn't healing well, will I need another surgery?

Maybe: It is dependent on the type and location of the hernia, what type if mesh was used and the technique that was used to place it. It is also very dependent on what is meant by "not healing well". Stick with your surgeon, but if things don't seem to be progressing, feel free to get another opinion. ...Read more

A hernia is a hole in the abdominal wall thru which the inner lining protrudes thru, creating a sac. Organs from within the abdominal cavity, such as the intestine, can protrude thru the hole and get stuck in the sac. It's been 16 day since my hernia repair. It's starting to feel itchy now. Is this part of the healing process?

It's been 16 day since my hernia repair. It's starting to feel itchy now. Is this part of the healing process?

Hernia : Especially if this was an open repair (non-laparoscopic), the wound can itch and this is normal. Just make sure that you are not dealing with a wound infection. Excessive redness, heat or pain/drainage would be indicative of that. ...Read more

What treatment for large abdominail seroma after hernia repair has already been draind twice I use a support binder but its so tender and painful?

What treatment for large abdominail seroma after hernia repair has already been draind twice I use a support binder but its so tender and painful?

Need a Game Plan: Seromas are very common after hernia surgery; almost all resolve w/in a few months after surgery. Rx depends on its size, how long it has been present, symptoms, method of hernia repair, location of mesh etc. Ask your surgeon what his/her "game plan" is. If you are not satisfied w/the answer, you may want to get a 2nd opinion from another hernia surgeon. Good luck. ...Read more

Whenever I ejaculate I feel pain at surgical side of hernia repair. A doctor told me this is due to scar tissue. what is the best treatment for it?

Here are some ...: Your described post-surgical pain profile at ejaculation is very intriguing and needs a surgeon who is willing to extend and expand personal thinking of how to manage such pain. The following is how I have and would done with no guaranty: more detailed Hx, physicals, trying alpha-blockers (off-label use), diagnostic & therapeutic nerve block, and last with surgical exploration/neurectomy/others. ...Read more

Pain inside scrotum persists even after hernia repair and after orchiectomy, in a 61 year-old.....?

Pain inside scrotum persists even after hernia repair and after orchiectomy, in a 61 year-old.....?

Questionable treatment, unless indirect inguinal hernia shown first.: Testicular &/or scrotal pain can notoriously be difficult to manage and often does not respond to epididymectomy. Certainly removal of testicle should not have been performed unless testicle was very tender. Various regimes utilized by pain clinics should have been tried first & certainly should be tried now including possible acupuncture. There is also possibility of referred pain. Surgery often does not help with this kind of pain unless it is due to intermittent trusts torsion in which case fixation of testis, to prevent twisting of spermatic cord, takes care of problem. Wish I could be of more help. ...Read more

Do i need to know for future reference what kind of mesh used in ing. Hernia repair? They told me it is called ethicon prolene mesh. Is this enough.

Yes: What's just as important is the technique. Ethicon makes more than one type of mesh for inguinal hernia repair. If you were to ever need repeat hernia repair (unlikely), it would be helpful to have the operative report for the surgeon to review. Sounds like you have enough info for everything else. ...Read more
