Hernia Repair In Women
A hernia is a hole in the abdominal wall through which the lining of the abdominal cavity protrudes, creating a sac. Hernias are common in the groin, belly button, upper-midline, or associated w/scars. The exact method of repair varies w/the type & size of the hernia as well as patient-factors, however, the basic principle is the same: close the hole, often ...Read more

M28, could sneezing and coughing 50 days after surgery cause to recur hernia(note it was large inguinal hernia, repaired with mesh in open style)?
Yes, it's possible: Anything that will raise the pressure in the abdomen can exert the same pressure on a hernia and cause it to recur, despite having just had a repair. While 50 days is right within the threshold of regaining maximal tissue strength, hernia repairs can fail at anytime. Even months or years later. Have your surgeon re-evaluate. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Maybe...: During hernia repair, particularly in young boys, the vas deferens (tube that carries sperm) can be damaged and scar, preventing sperm passage. Rarely, in adults having this operation, the testiculat blood supply can be compromised and cause shrinkage or even loss of a testicle, which can affect fertility. Can you have stomach fat or lipo done at the time of hernia repair surgeries? Port site and incisional umbilical hernia?
Bad Idea: Incisional hernia repair is almost-always done with mesh. Mesh infections can be devastating complications. Increasing the incisions in the abdominal wall by liposuction could increase the risk of mesh infection. Can a hernia repair and a prolapse repair be performed during the same operation? Can a hernia repair and a prolapse repair be performed during the same operation?
It : It depends on your overall medical conditions, and the possible difficulties or risks with each individual surgical procedure. I also do not know where your hernia is located. Often hernia repair surgery is performed with mesh, and if performing a "prolapse" surgery in the vaginal or rectal area, then cross-contamination and infection risks would be increased, possibly making hernia surgery repair with mesh not a good option at the same time of a "prolapse" surgery. Also if one of the surgical procedures is expected to be long or more complicated, then 2 surgical procedures at the same time may not be indicated. Lastly, I do know if you have found one surgeon who performs both procedures, or if you would need to find two separate surgeons who have expertise in the two different surgical procedures to work together at the same time. It may be difficult or medically not in your best interest to have 2 surgical procedures performed at the same time, but you would need to review all of this with your surgeon as each person's conditions are unique. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Does the presence of congenital hernias in children predispose to hernias in adulthood especially since the repair is only a herniotomy but no repair of the posterior wall of the inguinal canal?
Unknown: As you said there is no repair of the posterior (floor) of the inguinal canal. However they are separate entities with different causes and one should not lead to the other or preclude it. Finally on occasion wih long standing child type hernias can lead to weak floors and this is usually reinforced if discovered at the first operation. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
