Many cogent journals have recently reported minocycline as possibly effective in schizophrenia. What is your opinion regarding this novel approach?

Serendipity: From my reading, minocycline has been found empirically to help many schizophrenics with their negative symptoms -- the apathy and withdrawal that are often so painful for themselves and those who love them. Ask the treating psychiatrist whether this is worth a try. ...Read more

Is there any good data (rcts) on sensory processing disorder in kids without any other diagnosis (autism spectrum, dd, etc)? Thank you.

Is there any good data (rcts) on sensory processing disorder in kids without any other diagnosis (autism spectrum, dd, etc)? Thank you.

The American : Academy of pediatrics & coding organizations do not recognize sensory processing disorder as a stand-alone diagnosis, because it's always found as a manifestation of a neurodevelopmental disorder. Occupational therapists use the term descriptively, but it's not a medical diagnosis. ...Read more

My mris generate vastly different interpretations. Some see tumors, lesions, hyperintensities. Others see nothing. Lesions are diagnosed as everything imaginable. No objective standard? What's up?

My mris generate vastly different interpretations. Some see tumors, lesions, hyperintensities. Others see nothing. Lesions are diagnosed as everything imaginable. No objective standard? What's up?

MRI: Not sure which MRI you are talking about. Is it of the brain, abdomen, chest? You should understand that MRI or ct scans are just "shadow" of your body organs. When we interpret we do come across atypical findings that baffle us. All radiological interpretations should be correlated with clinical findings to arrive at a reasonable diagnosis. ...Read more

Is there anything for pathological lying other than therapy, specifically a medication? I have heard dimethyltryptamine (dmt) will help is that true?

No shortcuts: Pathological lying has many factors which contribute to it. There are reasons but you have to face them. Looking for a quick fix or medication is probably not the best answer. This is something worth trying to figure out now when you're young and still able make decisions that will effect the rest of your life.Therapy is the answer. ...Read more

I heard there are no serious consequences of delaying hypothyroidism treatment (levo) until symptoms get worse/significant/disturbing. Is this true?

Hypothyroidism: No, this is not true. The treatment of hypothyroidism is pretty simple - just one pill a day. The adverse eggects are slow and hard to notice - slow mentation, forgetfulness, decreased cognition to mention only a few. ...Read more

For what reason are chiropractic skeptic some sites so aggressively negative?

For what reason are chiropractic skeptic some sites so aggressively negative?

Because to some : Practitioners , when one has a hammer everything looks like a nail meaning that some try to treat everything the same way even when the correct diagnosis is different but this does not only apply to certain chiropractors unfortunately. That is why you do your research about seeking any treatment such as getting referrals and even a second opinion especially if not getting better. ...Read more

Prescribed many medications for depression for most of adult life, none worked, possible misdiagnosis? Nothing else ever considered, feel labelled.

Prescribed many medications for depression for most of adult life, none worked, possible misdiagnosis? Nothing else ever considered, feel labelled.

Other options: If you are concerned about misdiagnosis ask your provider to do a new assessment or seek second opinion by another provider. I have found that with low grade, chronic depression (dysthymia) that meds alone don't seem very effective. It has a great deal to do with mind-set, so without talking therapy improvements are minimal. Talk with your doctor about adding in cognitive behavioral therapy. ...Read more

Is Bupropion anticholinergic or not? Research links those to possible risk of dementia. Mixed information about the classification though. Thanks.

Is Bupropion anticholinergic or not? Research links those to possible risk of dementia. Mixed information about the classification though. Thanks.

Not to my knowledge: or my research into it. The molecule actually resembles a number of the body's own neurotransmitters (epinephrine and norepinephrine) as well as several other drug classes called sympathomimetics (amphetamines, sufafed etc). It is not listed as having any anticholinergic activity. However, amphetamines and cocaine both can cause dopamine depletion and have been associated with parkinsonism. ...Read more

Can t chemotherapy or other therapies buy not sct cure mds. If not why? I hear some people cured completely? Is that possible without sct? What rate?

Can t chemotherapy or other therapies buy not sct cure mds. If not why? I hear some people cured completely? Is that possible without sct? What rate?

SCT: I am sorry, but stem cell transplantation is the only one at this time that may cure mds. Hypomethylating agents ( this is not chemo) can be used for mds- and it actually can increase survival and decrease the needs for blood transfusion. Since your CBC is stable- you do not need to be treated and only need to be monitored. Blood support and growth hormones as needed basis. Follow up with your md. ...Read more

When someone is diagnosed with "flat affect, " are there any treatments other than psychotherapy?

When someone is diagnosed with "flat affect, " are there any treatments other than psychotherapy?

Flat Affect: "flat affect" is not something you diagnose someone with, but it's an observation that might go in one's mental status exam. Treatment depends on why the affect is "flat." it can be from depression, schizophrenia, medication side effects, and other possibilities. The most helpful treatment stems from understanding the problem first. Psychiatric evaluation should help discern this. ...Read more

Unanswerable: I am sorry to report but your question is way out of the scope of this simple application. This app is for suffering or struggling people to ask about specific problems or concerns. Is there any real hope for chronic pain management for addicts, especially those who'd like to be honest with their docs, but not get judged?

Pain control: You assume that pain control requires narcotics. There are many strategies for pain control that don't. The strategy depends on the cause, source and type of pain. Sometimes there are physical methods, e.g. Yoga and/or accupuncture, or cognitive strategies, including hypnosis and other coping mechanisms, and various other types of non-addictive medications. Consider consulting a pain clinic. ...Read more

I know that adrenal fatigue is not a recognized diagnosis in science based medicine. Are there any other venues that can help me?

Adrenal fatigue: "adrenal fatigue" is often "diagnosed" in people who are not feeling well. To say it is not adrenal fatigue is not to deny your symptoms of lethargy. You feel bad, and want to feel better. Perhaps start with a primary care provider who will work with you. A good pcp will help you figure out what's wrong, and try to prevent you from harmful or expensive nostrums that will do no good. ...Read more
